Primescan
Primescan allows clinicians to take quick, easy, accurate digital intraoral scans, enhancing the patient experience while improving workflow, efficiency, and clinical outcomes
The goo, the taste, the smell, the gagging. Forgive the puns, but conventional impressions leave a lasting impression on patients—and a bad taste in their mouths—which is just one reason to make the switch to digital impressions. Whether you’re already taking digital impressions or you’re a digital newcomer, an intraoral scanner will enrich the patient experience while obtaining scans easily, quickly, and accurately, enhancing workflow efficiency and producing outstanding outcomes for a range of indications.
Dentsply Sirona’s Primescan intraoral scanner has taken Dr. Craig Ratner from full-arch scanning that was slow and unpredictable to accurately imaging full arches in seconds—something that has “transformed” his practice. He now rarely uses traditional impression material and calls Primescan “by far the best scanner I’ve used to date.” Thanks to its “speed and seamless integration with Dentsply Sirona’s CBCT,” Dr. Ratner said it is now quick and easy to plan implant surgery and create removable, sleep, and TMD appliances—all tasks that were “cumbersome with previous versions or other scanners.”
Scanning Ease, Speed, & Accuracy
Primescan is equipped with innovative Smart Pixel Sensors, which produce scans with ultra-high resolution and data density. The resulting 3D digital models are exceptionally precise with outstanding photorealistic resolution. And with the latest software enhancement, Primescan scans twice as fast and offers two times more stability. Primescan is “significantly more accurate than PVS and is excellent for full-arch and single-unit scanning,” shared Dr. Sara Dean. Dr. Donald Roman finds that Primescan speeds up impression taking and crown fabrication, and he appreciates the “excellent software improvements.” Suggesting a smaller tip for the camera head, Dr. Ross Isbell said Primescan “captures extreme detail and picks up soft tissue well.” Dr. Ryan McNeil considers Primescan a big improvement over previous generations of Dentsply Sirona scanners in “speed, accuracy, and ease of scanning, making full-arch scanning much simpler.”
Enhancing the Digital Workflow
Using Primescan, Dr. Bilyana Tesic finds it “incredibly satisfying to be able to control everything, from material selection, to shade, shape, and fit,” which eliminates any guesswork with the lab. Calling Primescan the backbone of her digital workflow and a “transformative” addition to her practice, Dr. Robin Henderson provides esthetic restorations with an ideal fit and says she “almost never has patients returning for root canals, even with deep caries.” For Jayendra Patel, DDS, Primescan’s instantaneous feedback helps him “plan implant cases right away and tell patients whether or not treatment is possible.” Patients are “amazed with the technology, and many patients refer friends and family,” Dr. Patel added. While “looking for a great digital workflow,” Dr. Brett Druger discovered Primescan and said it fulfills all his needs, noting that he’s especially impressed that “there is a whole digital workflow for doing full guided implant placement.”
A chairside workflow is also an option with CEREC Design Software. Tired of waiting 2 weeks between crown preparation and delivery, Dr. Isbell switched to CEREC Primescan and is thrilled to be able to immediately view and evaluate crown preparations in real time at large magnification. When combined with a milling unit, CEREC Primescan is part of his “seamless, simple workflow that has significantly upgraded speed and accuracy,” resulting in “quick, accurate, and beautiful crown designs.”
Dr. Dean said she appreciates that the scans allow her to have more control over the design. Noting that he can’t practice without Primescan, Dr. Lance Teramoto no longer needs powder “in about 95% of cases,” and Dr. Alan Krause said he no longer needs to take alginate impressions. When patients first experience a digital impression, many of them are excited that there is “no goo,” shared Dr. Siti Lowery, who said their excitement is “priceless.”
Versatility & Quality of Outcomes
Pleased with Primescan’s versatility, Dr. Lowery said she takes impressions “for many, many things, including crowns, orthodontic aligners and retainers, occlusal guards, partial dentures, and sleep appliances.” Originally using the scanner for single restorations, Dr. Alan Howard said he is now “doing bridges and impressions and anterior cases that are beautiful.” Dr. McNeil is “amazed at how much better my orthodontic aligners fit,” and Dr. Patel said the “fit of indirect restorations has been excellent.”
Overall Satisfaction
Noting that “treatment choices are unlimited,” Dr. Patel said Primescan’s technology is “awesome” and helps him be a better clinician, and Dr. Kenneth Ingber called Primescan “a tremendous addition to our armamentarium.” Dr. Howard, who said Primescan is his fourth Denstply Sirona scanner in 20 years, believes that “Primescan is the standard of care, and there is nothing better.” Dr. Dominic Raymond II called it “one of the best scanners on the market,” adding he “wouldn’t trade it for anything!” Dr. Druger, who will soon be purchasing a third scanner, said Primescan makes him more efficient and brings “more excitement to dentistry and a lot of value to my practice.” Dr. Henderson concluded, “My patients, team, and I are still in awe of the outcomes we achieve with Primescan.”
