CompCore AF

Premier’s dual-curing CompCore AF composite core buildup material provides exceptional performance and offers enhanced light-curing properties, saving considerable time for clinicians. The high translucency of CompCore AF presents a more natural tooth appearance that minimizes the chance of shadows under ceramic crowns, while providing good contrast and excellent radiopacity. CompCore AF uses exclusive Hyperbranched Technology and nanofillers for superior mechanical properties and long-term clinical success. The product is available in automix SyringeMix and cartridge dispensers.

As any engineer knows all too well, a structure will not be secure without a stable foundation. Whether building a highway, bridge, residential home, or 20-story office building, the first step to success is creating a foundation that will keep the structure from cracking and crumbling to the ground.

In dentistry, when a tooth is cracked or missing natural structure, a dental restoration cannot be completed until the foundation is stable. That stability often comes in the form of a core buildup, which requires a durable material to ensure long-term restorative success.

Dr. Steven Berk was delighted to discover a durable core buildup material in Premier’s CompCore AF SyringeMix, a fluoride-releasing, dual-cure, automix composite that he says is “quite easy to use and conforms nicely into all buildup preps.” Praising the “ease of getting the material into the prepped space” and the “great setting time that allows the dual-cure process to be quick,” Dr. Berk declared, “CompCore AF is an excellent product that was easy to incorporate into my practice seamlessly.”

Mixing, Dispensing, & Placement

The SyringeMix design includes automix tips that “were much more convenient than manually mixing the material,” according to Dr. Paul Yi. Dr. Oluwakayode Olowoyo agreed that the automix feature “was easy to use, especially because we did not have to step out of the room to mix it in a mixer.”

Intraoral tips are provided in standard and extra-fi ne sizes, which Dr. Yi said were “convenient and easy to use on areas of difficult access/angle.” Dr. Marc Vance reported, “The small tips supplied make it easy to place in tighter areas.”

CompCore AF is available in 3 shades (white, A3, and blue), and Dr. Vance appreciated the “nice bright shade, which was easy to distinguish from tooth structure.” While Dr. Derrick Chua suggest-ed, “A better contrast in color or shade would be helpful,” he also mentioned that it was “very easy to use” and provided a “better patient experience.”

Handling Properties

Designed to flow under pressure but stay where it’s placed, CompCore AF offers clinicians a workable viscosity with excellent adaptation. “It’s easy to shape and use, easy to handle, and did not flow everywhere,” said Dr. Kevin Kang. Praising the “consistency of the material,” Dr. Yi said its handling properties “saved quite a bit of chairside time.” Although he would like to see less wasted material, Dr. Jeffrey Greene said, “It handled great and stayed where it was placed.” Dr. James Black felt it was slightly too runny, and Dr. Christopher Walsh said it was too soft but agreed that “once set, it did the job.”

In a specific case, Dr. Berk said, “CompCore AF allowed me to prep a deep crown prep with an easy distinction of where the crown margin was. My chair time remained the same for a crown prep, if not a bit quicker.” Using CompCore AF “made core buildups more efficient and reduced chairtime” for Dr. Mitchell Pasenkoff, who “loves the firmness of the material and the nice flow that does not stick to instruments.”

Curing Time & Final Restoration

With dual-curing capabilities, CompCore AF will quickly light-cure up to 8 mm in 30 seconds, and it will self-cure in 4.5 minutes. “I like the option of having a dual-cure component as well as a light cure,” shared Dr. Vance, who found both options useful. “For cores that are easier to isolate and/or have less mechanical retention, letting the dual cure go to completion is nice,” he explained. “For harder areas to isolate, the light cure is nice so that it can harden prior to contamination of the site.”

“The setting time was great and allowed the dual-cure process to be quick,” said Dr. Berk, while Dr. Chua and Dr. Olowoyo would like a shorter curing time. Calling the dual-cure capability “a nice benefit” that was especially helpful with deep buildups, Dr. Greene explained, “I know the deepest portion will set up and cure, ensuring a successful buildup that will not fail.”

Formulated with Premier’s Hyperbranched Technology and nano-fi llers for superior mechanical properties, CompCore AF produces durable core buildups with a natural tooth appearance. Dr. Greene praised the color matching, especially of shade A3, and Dr. Black named “polishability” as his favorite feature. Calling it a “reliable buildup material,” Dr. Kang “did not experience any postop complaints,” and Dr. Chua said, “No debonding was detected with CompCore AF.”

Overall Satisfaction

“I think it’s a great core material,” shared Dr. Vance, who said he would recommend it to colleagues because “it’s easy to place, has good polishability, and is easy to distinguish from tooth structure.” For Dr. Greene, “having a good buildup material to work with” gives him “one less stress.” And Dr. Pasenkoff concluded, “CompCore AF is one of the best core products that I have used in years.”
