CLINICIAN'S CHOICE

QUAD-TRAY® Xtreme™ Evaluation

The Quad-Tray Xtreme impression tray features improvements that prevent distortion and improve accuracy.

Clinician’s Choice Dental Products’ Quad-Tray Xtreme impression tray improves on the company’s original Quad-Tray with new features that address the need for distortionfree dual-arch impressions.

Arch Adaptability

The Quad-Tray Xtreme features a tapered distal bar that has a 25% reduction in thickness compared with the original Quad-Tray, eliminating the risk of impingement in the retro molar pad area. The tapered distal bar ensures an accurate impression for every patient, whatever his or her arch shape and size. All 4 of the dentists who evaluated this product found the adaptability to varying arch sizes to be good to excellent.

Tray Rigidity and Ease of Use

The rigid aluminum construction of the Quad- Tray Xtreme is memory-free and dead soft. According to Clinicians’ Choice, this impression tray will not flex or distort upon entry or removal from the patient’s mouth. All of the evaluators found the tray rigidity to be very good or excellent. “There was no distortion upon removal, and no remakes were necessary whenever this tray was used,” said one dentist. “It is the most important feature of this product.” Another evaluator, when commenting on ease of use, said that the tray was “nice and wide.”
The enclosed instructions were rated highly by all evaluators. One dentist noted, “The visual graphics were excellent to work with.” Four of the 5 evaluating dentists said that they would purchase the tray in the future and recommend it to their colleagues; 1 dentists said that he wasn’t sure.

Other Features

The Quad-Tray Xtreme also offers:

•a lingual wall that is slightly shortened to prevent impingement on the lingual of the patient’s anterior teeth, especially in smaller mouths;

•low sidewalls to prevent palatal impingement and axial roll of the tray wall, which is a common cause of distortion;

•a wide arch design to prevent burn through of the teeth, a common problem with most plastic trays;

•attached mesh that prevents the impression material from dripping and ensures it flows around the distal wall to form a secure lock between the material and the tray, and;

•2 upper and 2 lower retention bars along the inside of the buccal and lingual walls of the tray, which help to lock the impression material to the tray and prevent dislodging of the material.

Overall Impressions

The dentists who participated in this evaluation were asked to rate the Quad-Tray Xtreme on ease of use, packaging, enclosed instructions, tray rigidity, adaptability to varying arch sizes, prevention of axial roll and impingement, and price. All of the categories received an excellent to good rating, except price. One of the evaluators rated the price as fair. The same evaluator stated that the tray “uses too much material.”

Four of the 5 dentists who tested the Quad-Tray Xtreme use impression trays in their practices once a week or more; 1 of the evaluators indicated that he uses impression trays about 2 to 3 times a month. All of the dentists rated the Quad-Tray Xtreme better than similar impression trays offered by other companies.
