Dentists expect a lot from their equipment, and when selecting a curing light they expect it to perform—at the bare minimum—consistent complete cures. Knowing that he needs “a curing light that has the ability to consistently cure deeply into the composite material layer,” Dr. A. Sinesi was curious to see how Diadent’s D-Lux+ cordless LED curing light would perform.
With a dual-wavelength design, 5 curing modes, and a maximum light intensity output of 2,400 mW/cm2, D-Lux+ effectively and uniformly polymerizes all light-cured dental materials, according to DiaDent. Passing Dr. Sinesi’s test with flying colors, “the D-Lux+ curing light has a powerful curing ability with a variety of options,” he said. Praising its versatility and power, he added, “It is a great and versatile light that allowed a more thorough cement cure, especially through zirconia crowns.”
Ergonomics & Access
The ergonomically designed D-Lux+ curing light is lightweight for clinician comfort, and the light probe has an optimal 10° angle to reach all tooth surfaces, even in the posterior. A 360° swivel light probe and silicone ring tip ensure patient comfort.
“It has good angulation/ergonomics and excellent weight,” described Dr. Tony Gill, and Dr. Yu-Chi Chung also praised its lightweight. “It is easy to use and manipulate in anterior regions or occlusally,” shared Dr. John Ordahl, who found the “head a little large when trying to bond brackets on second premolars and molars,” especially on smaller patients. He did, however, appreciate the “large circumference of the head so that it can cure larger areas at the same time.”
Dr. Scott Terry “liked the ergonomic grip best” but found it sometimes challenging to position the light at the correct angle. “The 360° swivel is a nice feature, which makes it very easy to access the tooth,” noted Dr. Dominic Raymond II. “I was working on the facial surface of tooth No. 2 in a patient who had a very small mouth, and the swivel feature was very helpful for me to cure the restoration,” he explained.
Versatility & Ease of Use
Featuring 5 versatile curing modes—standard, soft start, high power, orthodontic, and max power—the D-Lux+ has flexible curing times and power intensities to cure all dental materials. “I liked its versatility and power to cure deep into a layer of composite,” noted Dr. Sinesi. Praising the “multiple modes for curing,” Dr. Terry called it “effective and easy to use,” and a Pennsylvania dentist said, “It works great in standard mode.” Appreciating that the light has “lots of modes of operation,” Dr. Ordahl successfully used it to bond brackets and lingual retainers, while Dr. Gill “bonded various composites, crowns, and access holes in implant crowns” and said, “It was easy to cycle between modes.” Calling the D-Lux+ curing light “very comparable to other lights we use,” Dr. Derek Draft enjoyed the “easy-to-use digital screen,” while Dr. Ami Bhagat found it difficult to read the settings from the side.
Curing Performance & Battery Life
With a dual wavelength and a high-in-tensity output of 2,400 mW/cm2, the D-Lux+ curing light can polymerize all dental materials efficiently. “I feel more comfortable that my composites and cements were cured completely due to its power and versatility,” shared Dr. Sinesi. Noting that the D-Lux+ helps him accomplish a “fast complete cure of orthodontic brackets,” Dr. Vincent LaBruna explained, “I am able to cure brackets in 5 seconds, which decreased full-arch bonding time by 15 minutes [per patient], allowing me to see more patients per hour.” He also reported a decrease in broken brackets after curing with the D-Lux+, which definitely helped save time and prevent emergency visits.
Dr. Raymond “liked that you could easily adjust the curing time,” explaining that “it helped me always feel good about giving an adequate cure of the composite material.” When asked to suggest improvements, Dr. Gill recommended “a small 3-mm diameter tip for tack curing of veneers or ceramic restorations,” and Dr. LaBruna said the light sometimes gets hot after 10 seconds of use.
A high-capacity 2,600 mAh Li-ion battery offers long operating life and power intensity stability, while a built-in light intensity sensor tells users if the intensity is within normal range. “The light and the battery life are excellent,” declared the Pennsylvania dentist, and Dr. Ordahl called it “easy to recharge.” Noting that “the docking station is very convenient,” Dr. Raymond explained that “you just put it in place and it charges automatically.”
Overall Satisfaction
Receiving high praise for its versatile curing modes, ergonomic design, and cordless convenience, the D-Lux+ LED curing light was highly recommended by most of the evaluators. “I am overall very happy with the D-Lux+ LED curing light,” noted Dr. Draft, and the Pennsylvania dentist said, “It was comparable to another high-end brand.” Pointing out that the light is extremely easy to use, Dr. Raymond concluded, “I like the product so much so that I will purchase it.”
