When it comes to crowns—or anything else—everyone wants to get it right the first time. But in dentistry, as in the rest of life, that doesn’t always happen. No matter how careful you (or your patient’s previous dentist) are, crowns will need adjusting, and some will eventually need to be removed. When the crown in question is made of zirconia, these tasks can be extra challenging, taking their toll both on equipment and operators.

Microcopy has come up with a solution to imperfection—at least with regard to zirconia crowns. Made with unique zirconia-grade diamonds, NeoDiamond Z-Class Adjusters are designed to allow dentists to reduce zirconia restorations smoothly without scarring or fracturing, thereby saving chair time, easing stress, and enhancing esthetic results. With 7 shapes, these adjusters give dentists the ability to tackle any tricky tooth anatomy with confidence.

A Cut Above

For crown removal, the Z-Class line also includes 3 cutters. Like their adjuster cousins and Microcopy’s other NeoDiamond burs, each comes in its own sterile packet designed for single-patient use, to avoid cross-contamination. As it turns out, one may be all you need.

“I was able to use 1 diamond bur per case in removing zirconia crowns,” Jeremy Schell, DDS, noted during the recent DPS evaluation that earned the Z-Class line a Best Product award. He added, “Other products can take 2 to 3 burs for normal removal. The decrease in time it takes to remove the zirconia crown increases patient comfort.” Dr. Schell also cited the Z-Class burs’ greater resistance to breakage and burning out as advantages when sectioning zirconia crowns.

Joe S. Aviles IV, DDPH, DDS, who practices in Southfield, MI, described the cutting efficiency of the Z-Class burs as “a big improvement” and praised their ease, speed, and longevity. “It makes my job extremely easy and causes less stress to my operating hands,” he said.

Easy on Patient & Practice

For Dr. Schell, who practices in Hudsonville, MI, using fewer burs produces additional practice benefits by decreasing waste and lowering costs. He shared that the Z-Class burs are also more readily available than other products he has used. “Thankfully, removing zirconia crowns is not a daily occurrence,” he said. But when imperfection strikes, Microcopy has the tools needed to fix it.
