Every year, DPS readers confirm that Microcopy burs are the instrument of choice for smooth, sharp cutting and safe procedures

In a world where multitasking is often celebrated, there’s an inherent value in doing one thing and doing it well. That’s Microcopy in a nutshell. In the bur business for over 3 decades, the company has gained a significant following of dentists who value quality, cost-effective instruments—and that includes countless DPS readers.

Microcopy’s vast portfolio of carbide burs includes the tough and durable NeoBurr which, according to one DPS reader, “eats porcelain for lunch,” as well as NeoMax, a concentric bur designed to quickly and easily cut through metal crowns and bridges with minimal chatter.

Diamond Strong

And then there’s NeoDiamond, the sharp, strong, and sterile bur that introduced single-patient-use diamonds to dentistry. With 4 thriving product lines—X-Class, Z-Class, NeoSpiral, and IPR Strips—there are plenty of options to choose from to meet the needs of any clinical scenario.

“I use diamonds for almost all my preparation work, operative procedures, and crown and bridge,” said Lawrence Brent, DMD, who recently started using NeoDiamond burs in his Cranbury, NJ, practice. “These diamonds are a good value and perform equally to more expensive products from other vendors. We’ll be purchasing more in the future based on my clinical experience with the product so far.”

X Marks the Spot

One of the newest members of the NeoDiamond family is the X-Class, a collection of 10 extra-coarse diamond burs with extraordinary sharpness, cutting efficiency, and durability. Featuring 213μ diamonds bonded to a cut-to-grit shank, these burs are highly effective during robust restorative procedures, such as crown-and-bridge removal and gross tooth material removal.

“I am a big fan of the NeoDiamond X-Class burs,” said Salomon Maya, DMD, who practices in Studio City, CA. “They are very reliable and a great value. These burs help me do a crown prep in just a few minutes. I typically use them for crown prep procedures but also really love the job they do cutting zirconia crowns off.”

The X-Class lineup includes the most popular NeoDiamond shapes, including 3 of the most common types—flat-end taper, round-end taper, and occlusal reduction.

“I find the shape selection sufficient for my needs, as I typically only use 2 to 3 shapes,” said Dr. Maya. “The round-end taper and the football-shaped bur are my go-to shapes for a variety of preps.”

While Dr. Maya is new to X-Class burs, he’s been a happy NeoDiamond user for over a decade. “I also like to use medium and coarse NeoDiamond burs for my preparations when I don’t need an extra-coarse bur, or when I’m doing some fine-tuning to my preparations,” he added.
