On any given day, dental clinicians see a wide variety of patients—from those with complex dental issues and periodontal disease to routine prophy patients. Juggling between each unique case calls for a flexible yet streamlined approach.

“Clinicians should always perform a thorough evaluation of the patient's oral health before jumping into the treatment noted on the hygiene schedule,” said Misty Mattingly, RDH, BS, Chief Dental Hygiene Officer at Sage Dental, where she oversees hundreds of hygienists in over 130 locations. That's why she turns to PDT procedure kits to help standardize treatment protocols in each office.

7 Kits Meet Every Need

Uniquely tailored to match common CDT procedure codes, the 7 PDT procedure kits—Pediatric Prophy, Scaling and Root Planing, Gingival Inflammation, Adult Prophy, Hygiene Exam, Gross Debridement, and Perio Maintenance—offer a rainbow of instruments designed to optimize hygiene workflows. For example, the Gross Debridement Kit includes Amazing Gracey 13–14 Rigid and 15–16 Rigid, a Columbia 4L-4R, Montana 4–5 Scaler, and Montana Jack Rigid-—all housed inside a 7-rack FlipTop Casette.

More Kits, More Comfort

“If a patient exhibits bleeding gums, 4- or 5-mm periodontal pockets, and radiographic calculus, I know to grab my Scaling and Root Planing kit,” Mattingly said. "All our hygienists know how to determine which kit to grab based on the patient's diagnosis."

PDT procedure kits are laser etched with the corresponding CDT code on the outside. “In the past, we had multiple sets of instruments designed for the masses," she continued. "But a prophy patient doesn’t need instruments that go far below the gumline into deeper pockets. PDT procedure kits give us better access and visibility, greater efficiency during scaling, and improved comfort levels for patients.”

The prepackaged kits also prevent hygienists from getting up to grab instruments during procedures, Mattingly said.

“Ultimately, these kits allow us to move past generic setups and use a variety of instruments for specific indications, which is better for us and our patients," she concluded.
