Bausch: We Make Occlusion Visible
Since 1953, this family-owned company has been a world leader in developing innovative occlusion test products
Dr. Jean Bausch GMBH & Co. was founded by Dr. Jean Bausch and his son, Dr. Hans Bausch, in 1953. From the very beginning, the family-owned company focused on the most accurate articulating and occlusion test products trusted by dentists worldwide. Like his father, Dr. Hans studied dentistry in Cologne, Germany. After World War II, he spent much of his time in the lab developing what would become Bausch Articulating Paper, a unique type of articulating paper that marks intensively on moist surfaces. Its progressive color transfer, which was considered revolutionary at the time, made it a favorite among fellow dentists around the world.
By the 1960s, Bausch was introducing micro-thin articulating papers, and within a decade ultra-thin versions. In the 1980s, Arti-Spot was introduced as a liquid spot indicator. In 1998, Dr. Jean Bausch GMBH & Co. became Bausch Articulating Papers, Inc., with a new headquarters in Nashua, NH, and new leadership from Dr. Ron Kraus and his wife Donna, who helped the company grow into the 21st century. The late Dr. Kraus is credited with cultivating valuable partnerships with many of the most important North American dental dealers. The company is now overseen by Ms. Kraus.
Today, the company still operates on the same principles established by the Bausch father-and-son team that set out to rethink dental innovations. By strengthening its relationship with dealers and dental professionals, Bausch continues to offer popular solutions trusted by the industry.
OccluSense
Introduced in 2019, OccluSense combines traditional and digital technology to register the pressure distribution on occlusal surfaces. The system consists of a handheld device, inductive charger, test sensor, and 25 OccluSense sensors. Dental professionals use the system the same as they would occlusion test foils, but the masticatory pressure is digitally recorded in 256 pressure levels. Once recorded, the data is transmitted to the OccluSense iPad app, where the dentist can then evaluate the fi ndings. All captured recordings are stored in the iPad patient management system, to be reviewed at the dentist’s convenience and exported as needed.
Arti-Fol Metallic
Arti-Fol Metallic test film—which comes in 4 colors—is made of a polyester material that’s only 12 microns thick. Combining a color coating with a metallic film allows excellent color transfer and easy detection of high spots on ceramic or highly polished metal surfaces. Because the film is antistatic, it can be applied without forceps. In addition, Arti-Fol Metallic is tear-resistant, making it ideal for resilience testing. The film is perfect for checking approximal contact points when repairing crowns and bridges.
Arti-Check Micro-Thin
At 40 microns, Arti-Check ensures precise markings and reduces false or smear contacts. Its special liquid color coating (color-filled microcapsules) facilitates accurate markings of all occlusal contacts or interferences. Even slight masticatory pressure bursts the capsules, allowing for repeated markings.
These tear-resistant, micro-thin papers are suitable for 2-tone representation of static and dynamic occlusion. Clinicians inspect the concentric contacts (static occlusion) in one color (red or blue), and then inspect the eccentric contacts (dynamic occlusion) in the other color.
