A Case of Clear Success with Clear Aligner Therapy
By offering ClearCorrect therapy to her patients, Dr. Jackson builds up her newly-opened practice while giving her patients a cosmetic treatment option that’s incredibly clear and comfortable
Like most of her peers, Dr. Maria Jackson found herself temporarily unemployed during the initial COVID-19 shutdown early last year. But unlike most of her peers, she had been in the process of building a brand-new practice in Forney, TX, situated 20 miles east of Dallas. “I was just sitting home and wondering if I was still a dentist anymore,” she joked.
When Empower Dental did finally open its doors, Dr. Jackson wasted no time hitting the ground running. She now offers a wide range of dentistry to her patients, including cosmetic treatment like clear aligner therapy. While she gets a lot of interest from patients looking for straighter smiles, Dr. Jackson makes it a point to stress that proper alignment isn’t just about esthetics—it’s about function, too.
“I do a lot of ortho because it allows me to take a more conservative approach where I can move teeth into their proper position before addressing treatment,” she shared. “I always try to explain to my patients that if we put their teeth in the right position, it’s actually easier to take care of them. And when it comes to restorative treatment, we don’t need to cut their teeth down as much to prep for crowns or veneers.”
A Patient Pleaser
Dr. Jackson scans virtually every new patient using her 3Shape TRIOS, which she says is great for record-keeping. It also allows her to easily send the digital scan to ClearCorrect and receive back a virtual mockup of the treatment plan, which she can then share with the patient and motivate them to move forward. “It’s so funny, the patient will always move the simulation side-to-side and then do a little nod as they’re looking at it. It happens every single time,” said Dr. Jackson.
After patients decide to move forward with ClearCorrect treatment, Dr. Jackson has found that they love the aligners just as much as she does. “I’m definitely a big fan of the material ClearCorrect uses, especially the latest material they came out with, ClearQuartz. My patients will say, ‘Oh, this is super clear,’ or ‘I can barely tell that I’m wearing an aligner.’ I tell them, ‘That’s great, just wear it—that’s all I care about!’”
