Delivering the Best for 50 Years and Counting
With a mission of “Making Dentistry Easier,” Centrix delivers multiple DPS Best Products
Many dental manufacturers claim their products make dentists' lives easier. But not every manufacturer makes it their mission. That is, unless we’re talking about Centrix. After all, the 50-year-old dental innovator launched the first direct-to-prep delivery system back in 1970. Today, Centrix continues to churn out single-patientuse products designed to make dentistry easier.
4 Ways to Temporize While the Tempit Family now includes 4 unique temporary filling and sealing materials, it all started with the original Tempit, developed specifically for sealing the access cavity between root canal treatments. Deemed a DPS Best Product over a decade ago, it features a unit-dose delivery system that eliminates the need for mixing. After being injected directly into the prep, and after packing, it expands slightly to seal out microleakage and sets in 5 minutes or less.
During its review period, DPS evaluators were impressed by how much time Tempit saved them by not having to mix and prep it or discard a partially used container of hardened material. Dentists also appreciated the single-dose syringe tips that made injecting the material as easy as placing a composite, as well as its quick setting time. Tempit also is available as:
• Tempit-E: Same benefits of Tempit but with added eugenol for anti-inflammatory and local anesthetic effects.
• Tempit L/C: Light-activated, flexible material ideal for indirect restorations and sealing implant screw access openings; sets in 40 seconds or less.
• Tempit Ultra-F: Light-activated, rigid material with fluoride; ideal for longer-term temporaries.
“When we need a temporary that is easy to place on a sensitive or ‘hot’ tooth until we can do more treatment or get the patient to a specialist, Tempit-E delivers as promised,” said Dr. Peter Schott. “I always like Centrix products for their ease of delivery.”

Making Restorations Easier
Encore D/C MiniMix has enjoyed a DPS Best Product status for several years and continues to gain new followers who stand by its unique and simple delivery and nonslumping formula—features that make core buildups easier, faster, and better.
Just ask Shari Mathew, DDS, of Manchester, CT, who has been using Encore D/C MiniMix for the past 10 years. “Core buildup is easy with this material and curing is fast. I also find that it holds its shape well. In many cases where there is limited tooth structure and tissue bleeding, it builds up fast and doesn’t slump.”
The MiniMix 0.5-mL unit-dose technology eliminates waste and cross-contamination, while its smaller size is more easily maneuvered in the mouth. After delivery directly to the bottom of the post hole with Centrix’s exclusive NeedleTube, Encore D/C MiniMix can be light-cured for 20 seconds to accelerate the setting, while the material’s dual-cure mode will complete the full cure.
“This product allows you to simply put the cartridge in the C/R syringe and inject where you want it to go. It cuts nicely, too, with less slumping, so you don’t have to overbuild,” noted Montville, NJ, dentist Dr. Alan Krause. “When I am deeper in the canal or at the bottom of a post space, a dual-cure adhesive like Connexio, also from Centrix, provides the same dual-cure security and allows my crowns to just drop in."
Another material that simplifies the restorative process is Access BLUE, a fast-setting, exceptionally rigid, and dimensionally stable bite registration material that earned a score of 4.6 out of 5. The tasteless and odorless material sets hard in just 30 seconds and its rigidity allows for cutting and trimming the impression without breakage.
“This product has superior quality, is easy to dispense, doesn’t stick to soft tissues, and has even flow and adequate working time,” noted Dr. Kapish Goyal during his DPS review period. “Access BLUE is adaptable, maintains rigidity, and has good strength upon setting.” Calling it one of the best VPS bite registration materials he’s ever used, Dr. Emery Cole added that Access BLUE stayed on the teeth for a more complete bite.
Caries Prevention for All
A key product player in Centrix’s Prevention for Life program—an evidence-based movement that helps practices deliver improved oral health to patients of all ages—FluoroDose is a 5% sodium fluoride varnish in a convenient, single-use package that’s easy to apply in less than a minute. Deemed a DPS Best Product, it comes in 5 patient-pleasing flavors: caramel, bubble gum, mint, cherry, and melon.
It has recently become available in LolliTray packaging, which is designed with an easy-to-grip top that peels smoothly even with wet, gloved hands. The LolliTray features a pop-up brush fulcrum that allows the applicator brush to literally pop up out of the tray—eliminating the need to dig for the brush.
Another DPS Best Product in the Prevention for Life portfolio is LolliCaine, a fast-acting 20% benzocaine gel in a convenient single-use LolliPack. “The flavor assortment is good and easily accepted by patients. It has a heavy enough viscosity that it will stay where applied, but it’s light enough that it coats the mucosa easily,” said David Fang, DMD, who practices in Salem, MA. “I have always found that since it is absorbed so well, that I have few issues with the injection itself. That, of course, is very big for the dental-phobic patient!"
