Dentrix Smart Image

Expanding your ability to provide quality patient care by connecting clinical and financial processes into one efficient workflow

It's no secret that our patient data has gone digital. This means that every time a patient updates their medical history, gets an x-ray, or signs a treatment plan, they're leaving digital footprints on your practice. As a longtime Dentrix user, Dr. Daniel Butterman knows the value of storing this digital patient data in one place. Here, he shares how Dentrix Smart Image has been the missing piece in providing quality care to his patients.

We've reached a point where many practices are now using multiple technologies to treat a single patient. So, it can be incredibly frustrating when technology doesn’t integrate properly—especially when the worst-case scenario of our clinical tools not playing nice together is inferior results.

I've been using Dentrix practice management software since 1994, which happens to be the same year that I started practicing dentistry. At that time, I had to wait for my assistant to develop film x-rays in the darkroom. It’s a good thing I had a lot more patience, not to mention fewer patients, back then!

Over the past 25 years, I've acquired so many new technologies—from digital x-rays to 3D printers— that have had a tremendous impact both on my practice growth and patient care.

A Smarter Imaging Workflow ExplainedBefore using Dentrix Smart Image, I would open the Dentrix Patient Chart and, if I wanted to see an image of the tooth being treated, I would have to open my imaging software separately and then toggle back and forth between the 2 programs.

With Dentrix Smart Image, when I’m ready to take an image with my Schick 33 digital sensor, I simply select the imaging procedure within the practice management software. After the image is acquired and stored, I can see the patient’s chart, x-rays, and intraoral photos all in one place, without ever leaving Dentrix.

Charting errors can happen, so being able to see an image immediately after it's taken helps confirm the necessary treatment and prevent mistakes. This has made treatment much safer and easier.

I've always been passionate about using the latest technology and materials, not only to make dentistry faster and more fun for myself but also to deliver better results for my patients. So, using a practice management software like Dentrix that ties all of this technology together is extremely important to me.

Dentrix Smart Image is just one example of how technology—when integrated seamlessly in the practice—allows us to move quickly and effortlessly from diagnosis to treatment.
