DryZ Blu

Bright blue retraction paste allows easy detection of material during placement and achieves fast, effective hemostasis

DryZ Blue kit with recommended product badge To ensure the success of an impression or restoration, it’s important to maintain a dry field. When Dr. Abraham Speiser first tried Parkell’s DryZ Blu, a gingival hemostatic and retraction paste, he was amazed at how the material stopped and prevented gingival oozing when taking crown impressions, cementing crowns, or placing restorative materials. “I was able to cement crowns with absolutely no contamination,” he said.

According to Parkell, DryZ Blu provides fast, effective hemostasis due to its aluminum chloride content and is ideal for tissue management when seating restorations, placing rubber dam clamps, bleaching teeth, and restoring subgingival cavities. The material also provides effective temporary gingival retraction and fluid absorption during impressioning.

Delivered with a dispensing gun, each convenient unit dose capsule contains 0.25 g of DryZ Blu material. It’s also available in 0.85-g syringes with hand plungers. The material is bright aqua blue for easy detection, showing exactly where the material is placed and simplifying cleanup. Commenting on its ease of removal, Dr. Speiser said, “It comes right off the suction tool, rinses off the gingiva with water without a problem, and the blue color ensures you have it all cleaned off.”

A Versatile Material

DryZ Blue also acts as a retraction paste, displacing marginal gingiva and drying the gingival sulcus around a tooth. Dr. Dana Blalock found this material to be invaluable for retraction during intraoral scanning procedures, where she needs to maintain a dry field. She explained, “Many times, using the intraoral scanner, I need to expose my crown margins slightly. I have 2 options—use a soft-tissue laser or retract with cord or a paste. If the patient is not numb, it is great to be able to just use the paste and get the results that I am looking for.”

Having discovered the product during a DPS evaluation, Dr. Blalock said she most appreciates that DryZ Blu “dispenses nicely with the regular composite compule gun,” while Dr. Speiser, also an evaluator, said his favorite feature is “its excellently established hemostasis.” Both said they would be ordering more of it in the future. “Our practice now incorporates DryZ Blu into our armamentarium,” said Dr. Speiser.
