Early Adopters of the Medit i500

By combining value, efficiency, and productivity, the Medit i500 intraoral scanner makes it easy to enter the world of digital dentistry. Recently launched in the U.S., the high-quality yet affordable scanner is easy to incorporate into a dental practice’s workflow. With its impressive scanning speed and powderless system, the Medit i500 allows for a smoother scanning experience, shortening turnaround times and increasing productivity. Its lightweight design, small tip, single-button control, high-resolution color images, and 3D-in-motion video technology ensure comfort and convenience for the user.

Dr. Mansoor practices in Gilbert, AZ, with a focus on conservative dentistry as well as a wide variety of specialized services, including laser dentistry, implants, sedation services, and sleep dentistry. A former dental hygienist and graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, she is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, a Master of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, and a member of the ADA, Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the Arizona Dental Association.

Medit i500 intraoral scanner When she was looking to purchase an intraoral scanner, Dr. Hanna Mansoor considered features like the ability to capture an accurate image, scanning speed, and ease of use. In addition, she wanted user-friendly software that could be easily exported. Medit combined all of these attributes into its i500 intraoral scanner, which is why Dr. Mansoor invested in the system for her practice in Gilbert, AZ. “The system is fast and easy to use, and it captures every detail,” she noted.

Image Clarity and Ease of Use

“Images taken with the Medit i500 are very accurate and clear, and you can always zoom in to check details,” shared Dr. Mansoor. In addition, the scanner guides the clinician to make sure to capture the most accurate scan. “The speed of the Medit i500 is pretty fast as long as you are using the proper techniques to scan,” Dr. Mansoor added.

She noted that, during a scan, it’s very helpful that the system allows her to reverse steps or delete a part of the scan if images are distorted due to the presence of blood, saliva, or the tongue. The Medit i500 is also extremely beneficial when planning implants, according to Dr. Mansoor. “You can have your scan integrated with CBCT scans, and the implant planning software will help you design and fabricate a surgical guide for a successful implant placement.”

Software

Medit’s workflow management and communication software, Medit Link, enhances performance with its integrated cloud storage and open data architecture. Medit Link helps practices manage i500 scan data and serves as an order management system—allowing for tracking of workflows from order to delivery. Dr. Mansoor pointed out, “The software is user-friendly and very convenient, and allows us to scan cases directly to our labs for crowns, implant surgical guides, and full-arch scans for clear aligners.”

Patient Benefits

With the Medit i500, patients can see their teeth being scanned and are typically impressed with the technology, Dr. Mansoor said. The wand is designed for simple maneuverability and features a small, round tip for improved patient comfort. “Intraoral scanning is more comfortable for patients, especially for those with a gag reflex where traditional impressions would be uncomfortable.”

Since investing in the Medit i500, Dr. Mansoor said her practice has been able to reduce expenses by purchasing fewer materials that would have been used for traditional impressions. And because scans are so quick and retakes are drastically reduced, the office can operate more efficiently, improving its production.
