3M Filtek Easy Match Universal Restorative includes only 3 shades, providing clinicians the flexibility to find an esthetic match for most patients—without a complicated shade guide
The newest member of the 3M Filtek family of dental composites, Filtek Easy Match Universal Restorative is an advanced material designed to simplify restorative dentistry. Using just 3 shades, this versatile composite helps empower dentists to deliver natural-looking restorations.
“Filtek Easy Match Universal Restorative allows clinicians to select from 3 shades of composite to match the majority of shades found in a patient's mouth," said Dr. Nate Lawson, who is director of the division of biomaterials at the UAB School of Dentistry. This simplified shade system streamlines the restorative process by covering the full range of VITA classical shades, while also simplifying inventory management.
Simple, Natural-Looking Restorations
“The disadvantage of a translucent composite is that esthetic outcomes can be affected by what's in the background, such as a dark space or a discolored tooth," added Dr. Lawson. “Single-shade composites are more translucent than traditional body-shade composites, allowing them to match surrounding teeth. Filtek Easy Match has addressed this challenge with naturally adaptive opacity, no blocker required."
Filtek Easy Match Universal Restorative's intuitive shade selection incorporates Bright, Natural, and Warm shades. “I find myself using the Natural shade the most,” Dr. Lawson continued, but for the rest of patient cases, clinicians can reach for the complementary Bright and Warm shades as needed—with no blocker required. The system is indicated for both anterior and posterior single-shade restorations, as well as core buildups.
Dr. Lawson has found that Filtek Easy Match Universal Restorative is ideal for many anterior composite restorations where color match is important, such as Class III and V restorations, and that it also works well for some incisal edge restorations, especially when the tooth lacks characterization or the patient is not demanding about the esthetic outcome. “It can even work for diastema closure on some patients,” he said.
