Gemini Diode Laser
Provide faster and smoother cutting, less tissue tagging, and more in-office procedures with an innovative, dual-wavelength, soft-tissue diode laser
Expanding your practice’s array of services doesn’t mean replacing your entire inventory with brand-new equipment—sometimes, it’s just a matter of upgrading a single item that has the most advanced features of its kind.
Elizabeth Fleming, DDS, has been using diode lasers in her Scottsdale, AZ, practice for years. But after acquiring the Gemini 810 + 980 diode laser from Ultradent, she was able to offer new procedures, such frenectomies and the excision of fibromas.
“Gemini allows me to perform a variety of soft-tissue surgeries that may have been previously referred outside of the office," she said. She first tried the Gemini laser in a workshop and then put 3 different diode lasers to the test in her practice, ultimately determining that Gemini was the best of the bunch. "By then," she noted, "I was hooked!"
"It's also helpful to use Gemini when isolating a posterior tooth before an impression or scanning to make a crown...no more cord!" Dr. Fleming added that her hygienist uses the laser to kill bacteria during scaling and root planning instead of using an antimicrobial.
According to Ultradent, Gemini makes the workflow faster and smoother regardless of the procedure. Its dual-wavelength technology combines the optimal melanin absorption of an 810-nm wavelength diode laser with the optimal water absorption of a 980-nm wavelength diode laser.
“The laser uses the best of both wavelengths, allowing it to work faster and produce less charred tissue for greater postoperative healing,” explained Dr. Fleming.
Designed for Simplicity
Single-use and bendable, the Gemini laser’s preinitiated 5-mm tips and uninitiated 7-mm tips provide better access to the surgical site, while LED tip illumination delivers enhanced visibility. The laser’s design permits short, 20-W pulses of power that allow soft tissue to effectively cool during procedures. A simple user interface and 19 preset procedures offer ease of use for a short learning curve.
The laser unit offers an electroluminescent and transparent display, along with a sleek, illuminated handpiece. “Gemini has an innovative touch panel for settings, or you can manually change the power settings and wavelengths to fit the patient’s needs,” stated Dr. Fleming. “To me, the dual-wavelength Gemini laser seems to be the most intuitive and easiest to use.”
