Why watch and wait when you can treat? Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus gives dental professionals the power to prevent destructive dental decay.

It’s no secret in the dental community that dental caries is the world’s most common chronic disease, affecting billions of people worldwide. Nor is there any mystery about how patients could prevent it with good diet and oral hygiene. Yet, until now, clinical solutions to early decay have been elusive.

“We’re tired of watching and waiting,” says Marvelyn Navarro, RDH. “Prevention is the future of medicine, even dentistry. If we could get rid of dental decay in a noninvasive, preventive way, wouldn’t that be a good thing for our patients?”

It certainly would…and now you can.

Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus is a biomimetic technology that uses calcium and phosphate ions from saliva to rebuild hydroxyapatite. Whereas fluoride varnishes promote remineralization on the tooth's surface, Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus remineralizes to the depths of active, early carious lesions. The result? The lesions stop progressing and fill in.

“Fluoride varnish requires ongoing applications, and fluoride paste requires patient compliance—good luck with that,” she said. “Resin infiltration makes white spots pretty, but over time, we’ll probably have to re-restore them. SDF [silver diamine fluoride] leaves that black stain, which some patients are not OK with. Curodont’s technology works with the patient’s own saliva to rebuild the tooth structure naturally, and it’s suitable for all patients, including orthodontic, pediatric, and general dental patients, with no contraindications.”

5 Minutes to In-Depth Healing

The application process itself is simple and painless, and can be performed by a trained hygienist like Navarro in less than 5 minutes. The clear gel is smooth to apply and tasteless. The only preparation needed is to clean, etch, and dry. Fluoride varnish can be applied subsequently, if desired.

“Educating the patient is one of the key components to success,” Navarro says. “When I show my patient a picture or a radiograph of the lesion and tell them I have a treatment that takes only 5 minutes and will help rebuild that tooth structure with no drill or needle involved, often they will do it to prevent fillings. Then, 6 months later, if I can show them the changes, they are super excited. They tell their friends I have the ‘magic juice,’” she laughs. “Seeing is believing.”

A World of Opportunities

The Cleveland Clinic estimates that 36% of people in the United States have dental anxiety.1 “These are the patients who avoid coming into our office and get white spot lesions,” Navarro says. She recommends identifying opportunities for Curodont placement, such as appointments with orthodontic patients, as part of the morning huddle. “Look for ways to explain to your patient how you can treat them in a more preventive way. The earlier you can place Curodont and get ahead of lesions, the better.”
