Lime-Lite Enhanced

Strength, reliability, and biocompatibility come together in this easy-to-use cavity liner

The last thing dentists want is for their treatment to lead to patient pain or discomfort. However, removing caries and preparing a tooth for a restoration present the opportunity for exposure to various elements that may cause sensitivity. Cavity liners and bases were developed to protect against such scenarios, initially because many believed restorative materials were the culprits. However, research has shown that sensitivity is most likely caused by oral bacteria that enter via microleakage, which results in postoperative sensitivity, marginal discoloration, secondary caries, pulpal inflammation, and potentially the need for endodontic therapy.

The ideal cavity liner or base provides strong protection against those oral bacteria and ensures patients don’t return to the office with complaints of sensitivity.

“My experience with Lime-Lite Enhanced has been that it’s easy to place, adheres well to dentin, and resists fracture.”

- Dr. Rishi Verma

Pulpdent offers a solution with Lime-Lite Enhanced, which contains a urethane dimethacrylate resin. The moisture-tolerant cavity liner releases calcium, phosphate, and fluoride ions to protect underlying tooth structure from bacteria and other irritants, and also to stimulate secondary dentin formation. The patented rubberized-resin component means the material absorbs shock and stress so it won’t facture or chip. When the material, which comes in a universal dentin shade, is light cured, it sets hard and is virtually insoluble in water and oral fl uids.

Rishi Verma, DDS, who has a practice in New Jersey, decided to try Lime-Lite Enhanced when his practice wanted to find an easy-to-use and reliable cavity liner. Pulpdent’s claims of biocompatibility also drew him to the material. “We wanted a material that didn’t require any other materials or multiple steps to place,” Dr. Verma said. “We also wanted a material that would help in cases of deep asymptomatic caries.”

Lime-Lite Enhanced has lived up to its claims, as Dr. Verma has had no issues with patient sensitivity and is confi dent in its long-term durability.

“It’s easy to place and it's radiopaque,” Dr. Verma said. “It’s really made a difference in situations where patients have deep caries that are close to approaching the pulp.”
