NeoDrys
Saliva absorbents combine patient comfort with quality design to superiorly provide a dry field
The fact that so many aspects of dentistry— from fluoride placement to impression taking— require a dry field seems like a cruel irony in a profession focused on the oral cavity. But rather than succumb to the challenge, manufacturers have developed various products to address moisture. Many are helpful, but they don’t quite solve the problem or may create difficulty in cases where, for example, gauze obstructs visualization of the procedural area. In response to the demand for a product that absorbs moisture, aids visualization, and is comfortable for patients, Microcopy developed NeoDrys saliva absorbents. Designed to absorb, protect, and reflect, NeoDrys have an inner core that quickly absorbs any fluid in the oral cavity. They don’t leak, protecting the procedure area from moisture for up to 15 minutes.
In addition to maintaining a dry field, NeoDrys’ protective backing aids cheek retraction and visualization. Understanding that dental professionals can benefit from a product that brightens the oral field, Microcopy designed NeoDrys Original with a white protective backing. The company then took the design a step further and created NeoDrys Reflective, which acts like a mirror to illuminate the oral cavity.
“I don’t need to replace it multiple times to maintain a dry field.”

NeoDrys in Practice
Kim Williams, RDH, BS, of Raymond, MS, has been using NeoDrys for several years. When asked what makes the absorbents a go-to product in her practice, she noted 3 features: size, absorption, and reflection.
Size—“We use NeoDrys with adult and pediatric patients, so having two sizes allows me to place the product comfortably.” To help with organization, large NeoDrys are blue and small are yellow. Williams noted that children especially appreciate the smaller size option. In addition, the medical-grade poly-netting is gentle on the buccal mucosa while maintaining a tight seal. The design also allows the product to be placed far enough back for treating third molars, while continuing to be comfortable for the patient.
Absorption—NeoDrys absorbents contain acrylate polymer, which traps saliva and prevents it from leaking. It doesn’t swell as it absorbs moisture and provides users with a 15-minute working time. “The absorption capability is excellent,” explained Williams. “I can use one NeoDrys per side for the whole procedure. I don’t need to replace it multiple times to maintain a dry field.”
Reflection—Especially for those working without an assistant, having a product that aids visualization and yet still leaves both hands free to work can be a game changer. NeoDrys provide that feature by brightening the procedure area or actually serving as a mirror. Williams uses NeoDrys Reflective in her practice. “The reflective material is clear and reflects the light very well,” she explained. “This helps with indirect viewing and acts like a second mirror.”
Consistent Protection
NeoDrys’ features enhance procedure efficiency, increase patient comfort, and support superior treatment outcomes. “Consistency is the best thing about this product,” said Williams.
