A successful prophylaxis treatment heavily relies on having well-maintained hygiene equipment paired with the right tools, explained Angela Reeds, BSDH, who practices at White Bird Dental Clinic in Eugene, OR. With that, she stresses the importance of selecting hygiene products that will lead to effective, efficient patient care—and that includes prophy angles.

“The key features I prioritize when choosing a prophy angle are soft, short cups that can flare into interproximal spaces, line angles, and even slightly subgingivally to remove plaque, food debris, and stain,” she said. During a recent DPS product review, Reeds found that the ACCLEAN disposable prophy angles deliver these criteria and then some.

Made for Enhanced Stain Removal

The new assortment of prophy angles from ACCLEAN provides ergonomic and design enhancements to improve clinical outcomes. The prophy angles come in color-coded body and cup types for easy identification and organization, and the grip is designed for overall control and tactile sensitivity.

“The best feature of the ACCLEAN disposable prophy angles is the ribbing on the outside of the cup,” said Reeds, who used the soft cup with outer ridges for enhanced interproximal stain removal.

“It was very effective at removing plaque and stains interproximally, while offering the added benefit of cleaning not only occlusal surfaces but also distal and mesial surfaces with large gaps or even missing teeth,” she continued. “For a patient with a strong tongue or lingual recession, I could also angle the cup more vertically, allowing the outer ridges to remove plaque and debris—even when it was too difficult to position the cup perpendicular to the tooth.”

A Great Value and a Smooth Operator

Reeds also vouched for the ease of attaching ACCLEAN disposable prophy angles to a slow-speed handpiece, recalling other prophy angles being tight and requiring her to push harder to get them to seat properly. “These prophy angles slide on very easily and seat securely,” she said.

Designed with high torque and a vibration-free performance, she shared that these prophy angles had some of the quietest cups she has ever used throughout her 17 years as a dental hygienist.

"They offer a very smooth and quiet operation, which means no splatter and a more comfortable patient experience," she said. “All dental offices also need to keep an eye on their expenses, especially on disposable items. With that, I have found these prophy angles work well and deliver a great value for their cost.”
