Predictable Restorative Results with Patterson LC Monoshade Composite
Since I incorporated Patterson LC Monoshade Composite into my practice—a radiopaque light cure composite for anterior and posterior restorations—it has been a win-win for my patients and my practice. Compared to traditional composite resins, LC Monoshade has some significant advantages, including that it can be used for all natural tooth shades. This means a large inventory of different shades is not necessary, which helps cut down on shades that are infrequently used. If necessary, Patterson LC Opaquer can be used in combination with LC Monoshade to mask discolored teeth.
Case in Point
A 33-year-old female was diagnosed with a failed composite restoration on the occlusal lingual surface of tooth No. 3 (Figure 1) after taking intraoral x-rays (Figure 2). After discussing treatment options with the patient, the decision was made to replace the restoration with Patterson LC Monoshade Composite.
Intraoral photographs were taken with the Carestream CS 1500 intraoral camera. After administering a local anesthetic (2% Lidocaine, Patterson Dental) and isolating the area with an Isolite (Zyris), the failed composite restoration was removed (Figure 3) with a coarse grit diamond bur.
Selective etching was performed with 35% phosphoric acid, and bonding was done with a single-component, light-cured universal adhesive. Using a 0.25-g capsule of Patterson LC Monoshade, the composite was placed in 2-mm increments per manufacturer instructions. The handling of the composite was excellent with the right balance of stickiness and flowability. A composite wetting resin was used to assist the shaping. The restoration was light-cured with a VALO curing light (Ultradent) and polished with superfine diamond burs and brownies.
Beautiful Esthetic Restoration
The final result (Figure 4) was a beautiful restoration with excellent esthetics and very high patient satisfaction. LC Monoshade Composite is a great product for challenging esthetic cases because it blends in well and takes the guesswork out of choosing shades. Also available in syringes, it is simple to use in a wide variety of restorations
