The universal composite offers a precise balance of handling, esthetics, and performance
One year ago, archaeologists in Turkey uncovered a 2,400-year-old ancient mosaic from the Greek-Roman city Antioch. The intricate work of art had a simple message: “Be cheerful, enjoy your life.” Drawing a parallel to the world of dentistry, some of the most effective dental products, even those with intricate compositions, go back to the basics: a balance of handling, esthetics, and performance. That’s what makes the art of dentistry—and the life of a dentist—enjoyable, and that’s what Ultradent seeks to achieve with its Mosaic Universal Composite.
Used for all restorative purposes, Mosaic’s well-balanced nanohybrid formula produces restorations of excellent quality. It combines the strength properties for posterior use with the esthetic characteristics designed for anterior use.
Mosaic has a smooth, pliable consistency, enabling total control and allowing the material to cut easily without sticking to instruments. It resists flowing or slumping out of place after being shaped, facilitating natural anatomy to be sculpted with ample working time under ambient light. “Feather” Mosaic to a thin edge without crumbling or tearing, which will help adapt the composite to the margins of the restoration and build marginal ridges.
“It holds its shape, it holds its shade value, and the integrity of the material is great,” said Dr. Brad Rogers of Utah, Ultradent’s home state. The material also has been tested abroad. Dr. Gaetano Paolone, adjunct professor in restorative dentistry at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, Italy, added, “Very nice opaque dentins, beautiful enamel shades, and a great handling. This is what I like in Mosaic!”
Mosaic was designed to emulate the same level of translucency and opacity seen in natural dentin. Its 20 intuitive dentin and enamel shade options provide predictable shade matching using single-, double-, or multiple-layer techniques. The material’s proprietary dispersion of nanofillers allows for high polish and long-term gloss retention. It also exhibits high flexural strength with low volume shrinkage and low shrinkage stress, resulting in a high-quality, lifelike restoration.
