Putting a Lid on Sensitivity
Glu/Sense, Centrix’s dentin pre-treatment desensitizer gel, provides fast and accurate placement for a host of pain-free restorative procedures
Ask patients about their reluctance to seek dental care or pursue dental procedures and they usually point to potential tooth sensitivity and pain which no one wants to feel. Fortunately for today’s patients, dentists now have innovative products that specifically target and eliminate pain, making difficult procedures more bearable on both sides of the dental chair.
One such product is Glu/Sense, a dentin pretreatment desensitizer gel that eliminates postoperative sensitivity. Glu/Sense effectively treats and protects dentin tubules by penetrating and sealing them while accelerating production of proteins under restorations.
Dr. Mark Hildahl, of Souris Valley Dental Group in Minot, ND, uses Glu/Sense on all restorative cases at his practice, and this includes patients across all age ranges.
“I use the product after preparation of restorations and crown preps, followed by the bonding agent to ‘seal’ the disinfected dentin,” he explained.

Fast-Acting Gel Formulation
A gel formulation comprised of 35% HEMA/5% Glutaraldehyde, Glu/Sense acts quickly—within seconds— to seal out post-op sensitivity. An added benefit is that the product is compatible with most cements and dentin bonding agents. When used on etched enamel, Glu/Sense acts as a wetting agent by helping to prevent the collapse of collagen fibers.
“Glu/Sense also allows me to combine the desensitizing and bonding agent on crown preps,” Dr. Hildahl added.
No-Drip Formula
Glu/Sense doesn’t drip onto soft tissue because it’s packaged in a syringe delivery system. The no-drip formula gives dentists control and accuracy during placement and ensures the product stays where it’s placed, largely due to its exclusive SofNeedle, a foam tip that allows dentists to achieve exact placement and complete dentin coverage.
“It has a gel formulation that allows me to keep it in place and avoid getting the material on the soft tissue and into the rest of the mouth,” Dr. Hildahl explained.
Permanent Effect
When used under restorations, the effect of Glu/Sense is permanent. It can be used under direct composite restorations with bonding systems, as well as under inlays, onlays, crowns, veneers, and amalgam restorations. In addition, and primarily because of the syringe delivery system, Dr. Hildahl reports that Glu/Sense is “very easy to use.”
In addition to its ease of use, Dr. Hildahl says he likes “the confidence of providing the densensitizing and disinfection all in one. I wouldn’t restore any exposed dentin without treating it with Glu/Sense. It’s too easy to NOT use!”
