Employing Air-Driven Excellence

The Patterson PD-96 LM High Speed Air Handpiece features MULTIflex coupling, 4 spray ports for cutting and cooling efficiency, and push-button chuck operation. Its ergonomic, lightweight design reduces hand fatigue, while a built-in fiber-optic light and 10-mm head diameter offer optimal access and visibility inside the oral cavity.

 “It has better torque than smaller handpieces,” noted Stuart Shaffren, DDS, adding, “It was excellent for crown prep where visibility was not compromised, and its 4 water ports were a big plus.”

The Best-Cutting Burs

Patterson’s Disposable Diamond Burs and Carbide Surgical Burs both received high marks from DPS evaluators for their efficiency and speed removing tooth structure and restorative materials, along with their durability.

“These diamonds work very well; they are smooth-cutting and efficient,” Dr. Lance Teramoto said of the Disposable Diamond Burs. The single-use diamond instruments are conveniently prepackaged for patient safety and easy selection across the available shapes, sizes, and grits. Dr. Krista Kappus added, “It was nice to have a fresh bur at the beginning of each procedure.”

The Carbide Surgical Burs are designed to stay sharp, cutting the third tooth with the same efficiency as the first, and with minimal chatter or vibration. The burs also help separate crowns and roots without an excessive chipping effect. Dr. Edward Penza emphasized, “These are the best carbides I have used in this decade,” and Dr. Amir Noori said, “There is a good variation of surgical bur options with many sizes, which means I can confidently perform surgery.”

Pediatric Crowning Glory

Met with similar praise, Patterson 5% Sodium Fluoride Varnish is ideal for treating dentinal sensitivity and reducing postop sensitivity. Its smooth consistency allows clinicians to easily apply a thin, even layer on patients’ teeth, and it completely hardens within 10 seconds once in contact with moisture. The varnish then remains on the teeth for several hours, drying to a natural tooth shade.
