Within dentistry, Patterson Dental’s name carries tremendous weight as both a reliable dental distributor and a trusted consultant. And through its Patterson Brand product line, the company cements itself as a 1-stop shop for clinicians by providing a variety of high-quality preventive, diagnostic, restorative, and infection control products—all at a highly competitive price.

Many of these solutions have earned Best Product awards from DPS evaluators. Here, we highlight these award-winning Patterson Brand products that solve problems, improve processes, and help practices grow.

Employing Air-Driven Excellence

The Patterson PD-96 LM High Speed Air Handpiece features MULTIflex coupling, 4 spray ports for cutting and cooling efficiency, and push-button chuck operation. Its ergonomic, lightweight design reduces hand fatigue, while a built-in fiber-optic light and 10-mm head diameter offer optimal access and visibility inside the oral cavity.

“It has better torque than smaller handpieces,” noted Stuart Shaffren, DDS, adding, “It was excellent for crown prep where visibility was not compromised, and its 4 water ports were a big plus.”

The Best-Cutting Burs

Patterson’s Disposable Diamond Burs and Carbide Surgical Burs both received high marks from DPS evaluators for their efficiency and speed removing tooth structure and restorative materials, along with their durability.

“These diamonds work very well; they are smooth-cutting and efficient,” Dr. Lance Teramoto said of the Disposable Diamond Burs. The single-use diamond instruments are conveniently prepackaged for patient safety and easy selection across the available shapes, sizes, and grits. Dr. Krista Kappus added, “It was nice to have a fresh bur at the beginning of each procedure.”

The Carbide Surgical Burs are designed to stay sharp, cutting the third tooth with the same efficiency as the first, and with minimal chatter or vibration. The burs also help separate crowns and roots without an excessive chipping effect. Dr. Edward Penza emphasized, “These are the best carbides I have used in this decade,” and Dr. Amir Noori said, “There is a good variation of surgical bur options with many sizes, which means I can confidently perform surgery.”

Pediatric Crowning Glory

Created with stainless-steel alloy containing elemental nickel and chromium, Patterson Primary Molar Stainless Steel Crowns deliver stronger, full-coverage, provisional treatment for pediatric posterior teeth.

“I like the ease of placement and improved chair time,” said Dr. Joel Preminger. Dr. David Buchina noted, “The crowns performed remarkably well with little need for repeated adjustments and try-ins.”

The competitively priced crowns are available in multiple sizes for all upper and lower primary molars, and are precrimped, prebelled, and prefestooned to minimize contouring and trimming.

Hands Up for Good Hygiene

Many DPS evaluators said that the TactileGuard Ultra Next Generation Gloves were flexible, had the right amount of thickness, and offered a snug fit. Hygienist Robin Mitchell shared, “The silky smoothness is great,” and Jody Ebert, RDH, told DPS, “The gloves were comfortable and didn’t cause sweating or reaction to my skin.”

The powder-free gloves are not made with natural rubber latex, and they feature textured fingertips to ensure excellent tactile sensitivity, even when hands are wet. They are available in 5 sizes—extra small, small, medium, large, and extra large. “I would use these gloves again and recommend them,” Dr. J. Brian Hamby noted.

Met with similar praise, Patterson 5% Sodium Fluoride Varnish is ideal for treating dentinal sensitivity and reducing postop sensitivity. Its smooth consistency allows clinicians to easily apply a thin, even layer on patients’ teeth, and it completely hardens within 10 seconds once in contact with moisture. The varnish then remains on the teeth for several hours, drying to a natural tooth shade.

Calling Patterson 5% Sodium Fluoride Varnish “a great addition to the hygiene appointment,” Dr. Pedram Mastour was impressed by its convenient, premeasured unit doses to prevent cross-contamination and appreciated its fast and easy application.

He said, “It’s a perfect mixture—not too runny or dry—by a very reliable company."
