Bringing new technology into your practice should always be cause for celebration. But, unfortunately, the challenges of integration can often outweigh the excitement. In a busy practice, time and space are precious commodities, so any equipment that proves difficult to install, learn, or use can quickly become a burden.

Handpiece powerhouse NSK avoids such pitfalls with the NLZ electric micromotor system, a powerful yet compact clinical micromotor that offers a hassle-free way for practices to convert any air-driven handpiece to electric. With the NLZ, NSK draws upon its extensive experience as a global leader in dental handpiece design and manufacturing to deliver a smart system that offers cutting-edge performance, enhanced efficiency, and greater treatment possibilities—all in the smallest possible package.

Easy Installation, Seamless Integration

After being introduced to the NLZ at the Chicago Dental Society Midwinter Meeting several years ago, Dr. Ravichandra Juluri decided to purchase the electric micromotor system for his Peoria, IL practice. He was immediately impressed with the flexibility and simplicity of the unit’s installation process: “The NLZ was easy to install and doesn’t take up much space,” he told DPS, referring to the unit’s compact size and small footprint. Dr. Juluri went on to say that “the module integrated into the delivery unit with no additional drilling required,” adding that he was pleased that the NLZ didn’t require moving the chair tray.

The NLZ quickly became a seamless part of Dr. Juluri’s clinical workflow thanks to its efficiency, ease of use, and expanded treatment possibilities provided by both the NLZ micromotor and NSK’s Ti-Max Z Series handpiece. According to Dr. Juluri, the system’s intuitive controls and pre-programmed settings made the learning curve a breeze for everyone in his office. “Our team got used to it very quickly,” he explained, also lauding the NLZ’s powerful yet “quiet motor” which makes operation more comfortable for both clinicians and patients.

Power + Ergonomics

In terms of performance, Dr. Juluri stated that the NLZ provides his Ti-Max Z handpiece with “good torque” (maximum of 4.2 Ncm), which he says helps “cut zirconia crowns and other restorative materials easily.” This is in sharp contrast to the traditional handpieces he’s used in the past, which “took a lot more time and effort” to perform the same tasks. Dr. Juluri also offered praise for the handpiece’s versatility and ergonomic design. “It has multiple applications—I use it for denture and flipper adjustment and for relieving sore spots after extractions,” additionally noting that the handpiece’s “light weight and small head” greatly improve access and visibility in the posterior. Ultimately, these features amount to less chair time per procedure and a better overall patient experience.

Innovation You Can Trust

“NSK makes very reliable equipment,” Dr. Juluri said, adding that based on his positive experience with the NLZ and the manufacturer’s Surgic Pro implant motor system, he soon plans to add the Ti-Max Z45L contra-angle to his armamentarium. He likewise noted that dentists who perform in-office endo would benefit from NSK’s NLZ E—a micromotor system that delivers all the benefits of the original NLZ, but with an added endodontic reciprocating function to enable safer, more efficient endodontic treatment.
