When Shelley Gessler, RDH, in Sheboygan, WI, first began using Parkell’s DuraTip ultrasonic inserts, she knew right away she was going to see superior results.

“I’ve been practicing for 39 years, and as soon as I put these tips in my hand, I knew immediately that they were going to be great!” she said. “Having used them now for several months, they’ve proven me to be correct.”

'Like New' Performance to 3 mm

“Great,” and quite unusual, too. While most tips begin to wear during their first use and continue a downward spiral of degraded performance with each additional use, DuraTip Ultrasonic Inserts offer a unique “out of the box” continuous efficiency for the entire life of the inserts. It’s common for other inserts to quickly lose from 25 to 50% efficiency after only 1 to 2 mm of tip wear. DuraTip Ultrasonic Inserts maintain the same efficiency and peak performance throughout the entire 3 mm of wear. It’s performance unmatched in the industry, and it’s the result of thousands of hours of Parkell’s developmental research and collaboration with a team of hygienists.

The unique wear advantage relies on patented internal geometries at the tip and connecting body, along with unsurpassed energy transfer. Additionally, Parkell’s strict quality control process ensures 100% stroke testing, as well as ideal water flow. The inserts are available in 30K Universal Slim and 30K Perio Slim.

“I make the choice of which tip to use based on my patient but I tend to use the Universal Slim for more general cleaning and the Perio Slim when I need to get into more narrow pockets or smaller areas of the cavity,” Gessler shared.

Strong W-Stack Design

Designed and manufactured in the U.S., DuraTip Ultrasonic Inserts also have a sturdy W-stack design, a feature that promotes optimized performance and effective deposit removal.

“These are solid, beefy tips and they’ve held up very well physically,” Gessler added. “The stack is solid and it hasn’t separated—or bent—as other tips have done in the past.”

Faster, Safer Treatment

The innovative design of the tip provides several benefits for both sides of the dental chair. For patients, the consistent performance of the tip means there’s less force and heat applied to teeth, resulting in safer, more efficient treatments and less chair time. Gessler has found the water flow to be superior as well, which enhances patient comfort.

“The water flow is great because there’s no dripping where I don’t want it to drip, and it’s a very even flow,” Gessler shared. “I’ve also found that it takes care of the heat output very well, too.”

For hygienists, the unique design and comfort grip provide several ergonomic benefits. The soft grip features a 12-mm diameter grip with an antislip tread pattern that enables a secure grasp of the insert without the need for excessive pressure. The ergonomic design decreases pinch force and requires less pressure and force for deposit removal, which translates into a significant reduction in hand fatigue after a long day of scaling, as well as faster hygiene treatments, which are a boost to workflow efficiency.

“I like the comfort grip, and it allows me to work very well without a lot of effort and time spent shifting the position in my hand,” she added.

Patients Report Increased Comfort

Gessler reports that some of her established patients have remarked about their exceptionally comfortable hygiene treatment, which she attributes to using DuraTip inserts. “I’ve had long-time patients tell me their treatment was especially comfortable, and they appear to think it’s due to me, but I just smile and I know it’s likely due to using these tips!” she shared.

DuraTip’s innovative magnetostrictive technology enables the tips to be compatible with all major manufacturers’ 30 KHz magnetostrictive ultrasonic scalers, an additional economic benefit for practices.

“Overall, the angle of the tips, the smooth water flow, the absence of dripping, the comfort grip, and the full 3 mm of wear are all reasons why I can say I haven’t really been this excited about a new product in many years!” she added.
