Why I Use: Versamill
A game-changing milling unit that allows dentists to save money and improve the patient experience
As a dentist, I’ve always been fascinated by how technology can be leveraged to provide both a greater patient experience and overall cost savings to my practice. In fact, those are the reasons I’m so pleased to join my esteemed colleagues in the founding of Transcend Dental Education. In addition to providing world-class dental education centered on digital workflows, Transcend will operate a Christian community clinic offering comprehensive low- to no-cost restorative solutions. While we seek to resolve access-to-care issues, Transcend will also help other dentists learn how they can implement digital workflows in their own practices and provide better dentistry at a signifi cantly lower cost.
Thanks to our partnership with Axsys Dental, we can rely on the Versamill 5X200 and 5X400 milling machines as we set out to change the economics of dentistry. How so? In my experience, lab costs for a crown run about $60 to $100. However, the Versamill units from Axsys allow us to create crowns for $5 to $10 and full-arch monolithic zirconia restorations for under $300. In fact, our savings are so substantial that I've been able to discount patient fees and perform more comprehensive dentistry. At times, the low cost of manufacturing crowns with the Versamill has helped patients avoid getting dentures, which can be less expensive but is not always necessary. This technology makes dentistry more affordable and increases access to the best treatment available.
In the past few years, I’ve increased my use of digital technologies to cover almost every aspect of my practice. Offering same-day restorations for my patients has had an enormous impact. A great example is milling a full-arch temporary set of teeth. After placing the needed implants, I can take a digital impression and then mill a set of custom teeth for my patient during one visit. This is a life-changing experience for the patient that comes at minimal cost to my office.
While I’ve worked with a number of different milling units, Versamill stands head and shoulders above the rest. I’ve found the accuracy, versatility, and durability unmatched by any other system I have used. Whether it is a titanium custom abutment, 15 to 20 individual units of crown and bridge at one time, milled dentures, or a same-day set of temporary teeth for a full-arch implant restoration, the Versamill system has handled everything I can throw at it and more.
I’m excited to take this same technology and patient experience to our new education center and dental clinic. At Transcend, we plan to change dentistry for the better—proving that with the right technology, you can provide the best in patient care at a fraction of the cost.
