Pineyro Arch Kit

Paradise Dental Technologies has released the latest innovation in implant hygiene and maintenance for full fixed implant restorations—the Pineyro Arch Kit. Designed with the help of Dr. Alfonso Piñeyro, it is the first instrument set specifically designed for debridement of full fixed implant restorations without removing the prosthesis. By eliminating the tedious and cumbersome process of fixed prosthesis removal, the kit also helps hygienists avoid the loss or breakage of micro-mini screws.

The cleaning of implants during hygiene appointments can be a time-consuming and inconvenient process. If a prosthesis is left in place during treatment, it’s difficult to access all areas for cleaning, and hygienists need to be careful not to damage the implant or cause tissue trauma. Imagine how much valuable time and frustration could be saved for the patient and hygienist if an implant could be thoroughly cleaned without removing the prosthesis or damaging the implant.

To overcome these challenges, Paradise Dental Technologies (PDT) invented the Pineyro Arch Kit. This set of 4 instruments is the first specifically designed for implant debridement of full fixed implant restorations, according to PDT. The Pineyro Arch Kit allows hygienists to access and clean full fixed hybrid implants without removing the prosthesis, which hygienist Amy Corder described as “a life saver.”

Other hygienists who tested these instruments on implant patients in their practices used words like “genius” and “incredible” to describe their experiences with the Pineyro Arch Kit. “I wanted an instrument that was sturdy enough to remove calculus and plaque without disturbing the integrity of the implant,” shared Donna Shewbert, RDH. Calling the Pineyro Arch Kit “a much better alternative than plastic instruments,” she said she could reach areas more efficiently than with her traditional implant scaler that has limited access with its angulation. “I absolutely love the scaler. I felt like I was able to give my patient a better cleaning,” Shewbert concluded, suggesting that this new invention is a winner for patients and clinicians.

Design and Ergonomics
The 4 instruments—Ti 1 Anterior Arch, Ti 2 Posterior Arch, Ti 3 Mesial/Distal Arch, and Ti 4 Specialty Arch—are curved to follow the anatomy of dental implants rather than teeth. Specially designed without sharp cutting edges to avoid damaging implants, the unique arches and edges allow clinicians to painlessly displace tissue and reach areas between the prosthesis and gingival tissues.

“I love the curved design that fits the curve of the implant itself,” noted hygienist Michelle Cunningham, explaining, “The accessibility was vastly improved with being able to ‘push’ the tissue to gain access to clean the implants.” Malee Wong said she had no problems removing plaque and calculus with the special angles of these instruments, and proclaimed, “The design of these instruments is genius!” While Maryann Vitale- Beltz, RDH, would prefer a longer working end to reach under the denture, Heather Locker said she liked the longer tips and curves to clean under bridge implants. Several hygienists commended the instruments for their light weight, and one suggested a thicker handle. “They make my job easier and allow me to have better ergonomics,” concluded Maureen Curran, RDH.

Ability to Access Tight Tissue Areas
“These instruments made it much easier to access areas that were near impossible to clean previously,” noted Curran. “I had better angles to get where I needed to get.” Jennifer Gugliotti said she was thrilled with the better adaptation and thinner shanks of the Pineyro Arch Kit. “I can adapt the instrument around the implant now, and it’s very easy to get into tighter tissue,” she explained. “It is nice to actually feel like I am able to clean around an implant efficiently!” Locker shared a success story of a patient who had a lower all-on-4 implant bridge with a large amount of calculus buildup. “Using the Pineyro instruments allowed me to easily get under the bridge, and it made things a lot easier for me to clean. These instruments were great.”

Efficiency of Scaling
In addition to making life easier for the hygienist, the instruments benefit patients in several ways, including shorter appointments, less gingival trauma, and no need to remove the fixed restoration for cleaning. “The scaler is my favorite instrument out of this kit because it actually removes debris from the implant,” shared Shewbert. “What I liked best was the amount of time I was able to save during a hygiene appointment,” noted Curran. “The linguals of the mandibular arch were much easier to clean.” Cathleen Alty said she was able to remove plaque, calculus, and debris from implants without damaging the implant, and Vitale-Beltz said the instruments were easy for patients to tolerate. One of Wong’s patients was relieved to only be in the chair for half as long as she anticipated. Pointing out another benefit for patients, Corder said, “It’s very costly to remove an implant for scaling. When we are able to debride without removing the prosthesis, it can save the patient money.”

Overall Satisfaction
According to Corder, the Pineyro Arch Kit instruments are “a life saver for dental professionals and patients,” and “there is no other way to clean implants properly.” Highlighting that these 4 instruments were specifically designed to get into the narrow crevices at different angles, Wong remarked, “Now, patients can have the option of leaving in a fixed implant-retained denture for their debridement. Incredible! The instruments are fabulous!”
