Paradise Dental Technologies Queen of Hearts periodontal curette is designed with much longer cutting edges and a closed-face blade for fine finishing with minimal tissue distention, allowing clinicians to efficiently reach the root concavities, base of the pocket, and furcations of periodontally involved teeth with better adaptation.

A mix of 14 dentists and hygienists participated in this Dental Product Shopper evaluation of the Queen of Hearts curette, rating such features as instrument weight, ease of control, and blade sharpness.

Instrument Weight

Manufacturer Description: The Queen of Hearts is ultralight and weighs in at 13 g making it one of the lightest instruments available. The second generation, higher quality, solid resin handle is a key contributing factor.

Evaluator Feedback: A dentist evaluator from Tampa, FL, with 14 years of experience, who noted that the Queen of Hearts is much better than similar periodontal curettes, said the product was "light weight and easy to use." This same evaluator said she would definitely purchase it in the future and recommend it to his colleagues. Ninety three percent of the evaluators rated instrument weight as excellent or very good.

Ease of Control

Manufacturer Description: The comfortable grip of the Queen of Hearts comes from a unique knurling pattern selected after extensive research. This knurling pattern was extended on a larger diameter handle to reduce pinch force. Instrument blade tips and the solid resin handle are combined for excellent tactile sensitivity. Scaling calculus causes a reverberation that can actually allow clinicians to feel the difference.

Evaluator Feedback: A hygienist in practice for 30 years who rated all features of the Queen of Hearts as excellent or very good described it as "very easy to use." Another hygienist evaluator in practice for 8 years said, "I loved the adaptability of this instrument. I could use it in both anterior and posterior regions."

Blade Sharpness

Manufacturer Description: PDT steel is made of high-quality 440A stainless steel. PDT uses a unique heat treat and cryogenic formula to create a uniform molecular grain structure. This makes the steel harder and more durable, consistently between a Rockwell C hardness of 57 to 59.

Evaluator Feedback: "The sharpness of the blade is good for specific areas such as furcations and buccal/lingual pockets," said a hygienist in practice for 19 years who also cited blade sharpness as her favorite feature. An evaluator from Watertown, WI, also stated that she liked "the lengths of both the cutting edge and shaft." She added, "I loved that the toe has a cutting edge [which is] great for removing maxillary anterior lingual tartar."

Overall Satisfaction

Nine evaluators called the Queen of Hearts much or somewhat better than similar products, with comments such as "I loved it" and "very easy to use." "Paradise Dental Technologies Queen of Hearts curette is an extremely effective instrument. It is evident that much thought went into its design," said a hygienist in practice for 11 years. "Great product. Easy to use, comfortable, very adaptable, and the blade was sharp," said a hygienist from Jonesboro, AR.
