Isolite 3 retracts, isolates, and illuminates the oral environment while optimizing patient comfort and safety, allowing for efficient and consistent outcomes 

Dentists are consummate multitaskers, moving from patient to patient throughout the day. Even when performing a procedure on just one patient, they frequently need to simultaneously isolate the area of interest, retract the tongue and cheek, control moisture, illuminate the oral cavity, protect the airway, and—during all this—try to keep the patient relatively comfortable. How can they possibly do it all?

The answer, according to Dr. Nima Shayesteh and Dr. Jemima Poitevien, is the Isolite 3 from Zyris, an all-in-one dental isolation system that retracts, isolates, and illuminates. Distributed exclusively by Henry Schein, Isolite 3 “is a godsend” for Dr. Poitevien during surgeries as it provides optimal retraction and isolation, moisture control, improved access, airway protection, and outstanding visibility with integrated illumination. The system also keeps patients comfortable and allows clinicians to perform procedures quickly and efficiently, with predictable, reliable clinical outcomes.

Acknowledging that “there’s no way to do quality, long-lasting dentistry without good moisture control,” Dr. Shayesteh declared, “Isolite 3 allows for just that” and more. She said the system provides her with “easy vision, access, and illumination along with patient comfort and safety,” resulting in “expedited workfl ow.” In addition, “Patients perceive a better-quality treatment than in other offi ces,” she said.

Retraction, Isolation, & Illumination

Isolite 3 features a proprietary single-use mouthpiece that keeps patients comfortable while allowing clinicians to work effortlessly. “Isolite 3 enables isolation on just about every patient due to the different mouthpiece sizes. It’s much easier than utilizing a rubber dam and keeps moisture away from the operating fi eld,” said Dr. Michael Maroon. “Nothing retracts the tongue and cheek better, and so many cases were more successful just due to improved isolation; it provides a much drier fi eld,” agreed Dr. Jane Arena. Assistant Lori Lundstrom said, “It works great for 2-handed treatment; I can do multiple quadrants without delaying treatment,” and hygienist Stacey Moore said it keeps the field dry and improves access when placing sealants, improving retention signifi cantly. “It makes dry isolation quicker, decreases the fear of aspiration, and I don’t have to worry about the logistics of using a rubber dam,” noted Dr. Poitevien.

With an integrated LED light, Isolite 3 illuminates the oral cavity with white light or a true non-curing amber light for maximum visibility. “The 3 levels of built-in lighting give me an illuminated fi eld anywhere in the mouth,” remarked Dr. Maroon, and Dr. Keith Coe said he appreciates the built-in light and “not having an expensive, fragile light stick as in previous models.” Dr. Arlen Lackey noted, “A light source inside the oral cavity is an added bonus, as is changeability to yellow-orange for light bonding and curing control.”

Patient Safety and Comfort

To maximize patient comfort, the soft, flexible Isolite 3 mouthpiece comes in 6 sizes and acts as a bite block, tongue shield, retraction device, and airway barrier while providing hands-free continuous suction and reducing aerosols. The mouthpiece is easy to place and remove and is designed for single use to prevent cross-contamination. Because the mouthpiece allows patients to relax their jaws, they “are more comfortable not having to stay open on their own,” said Dr. Shayesteh. Most patients fi nd it more comfortable than a rubber dam, said Lundstrom, explaining that it’s “quicker to put in and take out.” Calling Isolite 3 especially beneficial for difficult extractions and implant placement, Dr. Maroon said, “It gives me confi dence that I’ll be able to see the working fi eld and not have to worry about the patient choking,” and Ricardo Kimbers, DDS, added, “I feel more secure knowing my patients are better protected.”

For improved effi ciency, Isolite 3 “can be quickly incorporated into your daily routine [for] just about any procedure,” said Dr. Maroon. “It works great with patients of all ages and sizes, and cost is a minimum,” Dr. Michael Snider said, adding that he can “prep teeth and bond restorations more effi ciently and predictably and achieve better results.” Moore found that she can “work without an assistant on most patients,” and Dr. Arena estimates that Isolite reduces chair time by 35%. Dr. Lackey said using Isolite 3 has “enhanced our professional reputation as a more comfortable dental offi ce community-wide,” and Dr. Jay Epstein said Isolite 3 makes many procedures less stressful.
