Designed for long-term denture reline applications, Rebase II is a chairside and laboratory hard reline material for use with complete or partial dentures and for partial denture repairs.
Rebase II "mixes and behaves like regular acrylic" and has a "consistency close to regular acrylic with better 'flow'," reported a Virginia prosthodontist who evaluated Rebase II for Dental Product Shopper. "Patients were very satisfied," he continued, "One patient even emailed to thank us for the reline because it changed how she felt about her immediate denture."
Formerly known as Tokuso Rebase, Rebase II has been an industry leader in the hard denture reline category for the last 25 years. A combination of 12 general dentists and prosthodontists evaluated Tokuyama's Rebase II Hard Denture Reline Material and assessed several characteristics of the material, including heat generation, handling characteristics, curing time and polishability.
Heat Generation and Handling Characteristics
Manufacturer Description: Without compromising any benefits from its predecessor, Tokuso Rebase, Tokuyama Rebase II generates less heat for intraoral curing and features improved handling characteristics.
Evaluator Feedback: "Great product, easy to handle," remarked a Florida dentist in practice for 15 years. He and 3 other evaluators liked the material's "ease of use" best, while a Massachusetts prosthodontist liked "[the] lack of heat during curing." A prosthodontist from Ann Arbor, MI, who rated heat generation and handling characteristics as very good, had one "patient [who] complained about heat generation." The material "blends very well with acrylic," reported a South Carolina prosthodontist, and another dentist described Rebase II as having "excellent flow ability and detail capture."
Curing Time
Manufacturer Description: Offering a curing time of 4 minutes 30 seconds intraorally, Rebase II is designed for long-term denture reline application. The Rebase II kit includes a resin hardener that cures the top layer to avoid pore development and bacteria build up.
Evaluator Feedback: "The setting time was quick," reported a prosthodontist from Brookline, MA, who rated all factors of Rebase II as excellent and said the material is "easy to use." When asked what they liked best, 2 evaluators mentioned "curing time," while a Beverly Hills, CA dentist would like to see the curing time improved. Other comments about curing time were "nice hard set," "[I would like to see the] curing time on [the] colored instruction sheet," and "chairside time for me was ideal."
Polishability
Manufacturer Description: Tokuyama Rebase II is easy to trim and polish and produces excellent esthetic results.
Evaluator Feedback: Rebase II is "very easy to trim and polish, with a feel similar to regular acrylic," shared one evaluator. A California dentist liked the material's "polishability" best, and a prosthodontist with 20 years of experience liked its "nice finish with proper polishing." "I was happy with the end results," said an evaluator who rated polishability as very good. "[Rebase II] is a must have for any dentist that fabricates dentures."
Overall Satisfaction
All 12 evaluators rated their overall satisfaction with Rebase II as excellent or very good, and 11 would definitely or probably purchase Rebase II in the future. "Although I believe it to be a great product," mentioned the 1 evaluator who wasn't sure if he would purchase the material, "it takes longer to measure and dispense anything that does not come in syringe form."
One evaluator said, "[I] liked the strength of the material on denture borders," and another added, "It appears to have bonded well to [the] denture base." A prosthodontist liked the "color match" of the material, and another said it "provided great adaptation for the dentures." "Rebase II is an excellent product," described a dentist in practice for 14 years, and when asked what he would like to see improved, a Birmingham, AL, evaluator said, "not much," adding, "It is my new reline material now."
