It’s little wonder that dental professionals are so protective of their instruments. Each one is an investment, and keeping those instruments in top-notch condition and ensuring they’re always available when needed are top priorities.
Of course, even the most vigilant practitioner knows to expect the unexpected. Autoclaves break down, a particular instrument that’s needed for an emergency gets tied up in a long sterilization cycle, and delicate, expensive scanner tips start to show wear after being sterilized at high temperatures.
As a biomedical equipment technician at a busy dental practice, Debra Boelk has been through all of the above situations, which is why her practice now relies on the efficiency of the Enbio S autoclave that features up to 4 times faster cycle times than the typical autoclave, according to its manufacturer, Enbio Group AG.
When quick processing is needed, Boelk said she can perform “a 134oC run in about 15 minutes, including drying time, which greatly helps with turnaround of low-stock instruments.” When a large autoclave is not working, “Enbio S provides a safety net and helps with overflow when the operatories are especially busy.” And for those delicate scanner tips, she said, “I can run them separately on a lower temperature (121oC) cycle without removing an entire autoclave from service for 1+ hours.”
Ease of Use
Simple to install and operate, Enbio S works quickly, effectively, and quietly, and its sleek and compact design merges seamlessly into any dental practice. Calling Enbio S “easy to install, use and maintain,” Dr. Sanil Patel is pleased with its small footprint, inexpensive cost, and efficient operation, and Dr. Christopher West described it as “very user friendly and easy to use and maintain.” Commenting that her assistant “loves the ease of use and easy maintenance of the Enbio S,” Dr. Elham Shadpour said, “It uses very little water, and it’s very easy to refill the water bottle and dispose of the wastewater.”
“The user interface is clean and intuitive,” said Boelk, and Dr. Anitha Reddy likes its compact size and said, “It’s easy to transport between offices.” The team at Seamless Dentistry appreciates having a small autoclave for their lab and told DPS, “Our team loves it.” When asked to recommend improvements, Dr. Patel suggested having larger bottles to allow hookups to multiple Enbio units, and office manager Kim Mihalik recommended “a little bigger tray.”
Efficiency & Time Savings
Enbio S features super-fast processing times of 7 minutes for unwrapped instruments at 134oC, 15 minutes wrapped at 134oC, and 45 minutes wrapped at 121oC, which includes drying time. Calling it “a very efficient machine,” Dr. Shadpour said she can “safely and efficiently sterilize instruments in minutes and have them ready for my next patient.” Because the Enbio S cycles are “so quick and efficient,” she can “see 6 to 8 filling patients a session with only 2 handpieces in circulation.” She recently opened a new dental practice, and having an efficient autoclave reduced her equipment expenses, helping to avoid “spending tons of money on handpieces, x-ray equipment, and dental instruments.”
When his previous sterilizer wasn’t working well, Dr. Sunny Pahouja invested in the Enbio S and reported, “We can now run ultra-fast cycles, which saves us time and money.” Dr. Reddy appreciates “having a backup autoclave for handpieces and faster turn around time for instruments,” and Dr. West said, “It allows us to quickly and efficiently autoclave our handpieces.” Pleased with the unit’s minimal maintenance and ease of setup, Mihalik said, “Enbio S quickly sterilizes, and all instruments come out dry and ready to use in 15 minutes, which keeps the operation running without having to wait on instruments.”
Sterilization Performance
When he needed a second autoclave exclusively for his handpieces, Dr. West chose the Enbio S and has never looked back. “It is a very well-made, high-quality product that helps us properly autoclave and extend the life of our handpieces.” Pleased with its quick, efficient sterilization cycles, Dr. Shadpour shared, “I can rest confident that my practice operates with the highest level of infection control while operating on a fixed budget.” Noting that “the advertised cycle times are actually how it performs,” Boelk reported, “Enbio S has helped prolong the life of our delicate scanner tips.” Recognizing the importance of annual maintenance, Boelk said it’s a bit inconvenient for her practice, which is located in a remote area, to send the autoclave out for service.
