ABRAHAM JASKIEL, DMD

Dr. Jaskiel earned a Doctor of Medical Dentistry in 1999 from Boston University. He was selected to take part in an externship with Brigham and Women’s Hospital, part of Harvard University. He then completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry for 2 years, which included 1 year with the Dade County Dental Research Clinic and a second year as chief resident of Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Jaskiel went on to teach dentists at Community Smiles Dental Clinic and has been on the board of directors of this teaching clinic for 10 years. At his Brickell Avenue Cosmetic & Holistic Dentistry practice in Miami, FL, he has implemented laser and digital dentistry, and many state-of-the-art materials.

In his Miami, FL, practice, Dr. Abraham Jaskiel is a firm believer in trying new technologies—and having practiced for over 2 decades, he’s worked with countless post systems. He recently tried iLumi’s Super Fiber Post, and here, he describes how the innovative fiberoptic technology has provided him with confident polymerization deep into the root canal as well as highly esthetic post placements.

I’m one of those few dentists who have many different instruments and materials in my office, because I always like trying new products if I think they might benefit my patients. Over the course of my 25 years of practice, I’ve seen just about every kind of post that’s available. In the past, I have used posts that tended to be very opaque and somewhat yellow. But I recently began using the Super Fiber Post from iLumi Sciences, and these posts have performed well for both upper and lower anteriors.

iLumi Sciences was originally a spinoff from a fiberoptic company. The company took that technology and developed its Super Fiber Post, a unique post that delivers an omnidirectional photocuring light throughout the entire post to the apex. The patented fiberoptic technology allows light transmission and polymerization deep into the root canal, and the patented technology also offers greater than 5x radiopacity for detailed x ray visibility.

Shape Conforming & Esthetic

Some standout positives about the Super Fiber Post? They’re available in different sizes, and in my experience, I’ve found that they actually conform to the tooth very nicely. They’re definitely translucent, so they work well in the esthetic zone. A great example to illustrate this is how I recently used a Super Fiber Post on tooth No. 8—which is in the highly esthetic zone—and it blended very nicely with the surrounding teeth because it was so translucent.

Another benefit is that iLumi offers separate drills made for each unit, which are tapered for each post and offer superior cutting action with a latch type connection and a semiflexible point. The posts and drills are also color matched, so that helps to make everything a bit easier.

Of course, the main advantage of these Super Fiber Posts is when you put your curing light on the post itself, it literally emits the light straight down the post, and you know you’re going to be able to cure the material very well. This is a rare achievement among posts, and I believe that’s one of the biggest benefits to using Super Fiber Posts.
