TheraCem
Dual-cured, calcium- and fluoride-releasing cement offers a strong, reliable bond to zirconia and most substrates
Every dentist wants to deliver reliable indirect restorations that will remain durable for the long term. That means the cement used is the key to avoiding costly failures that send the patient back to the office with a crown in their hand. For Emery Cole, DMD, FAGD, who practices in Sumiton, AL, that cement is an easy choice: BISCO’s TheraCem, which has been his go-to cement since it came onto the market over 5 years ago. He uses it for all of his CEREC ceramic restorations, including lithium disilicate, zirconia, and composite ceramics.
“As a user of bioceramic calcium root canal sealers, having the calcium in the cement is a definite advantage.”

One key reason for bringing TheraCem into his practice: continuous calcium and fluoride release.* “As a user of bioceramic calcium root canal sealers, having the calcium in the cement is a definite advantage,” Dr. Cole said.
TheraCem is a dual-cured, self-adhesive resin cement indicated for luting crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, and prefabricated metal, nonmetal, and fiber posts. It is a member of BISCO’s growing TheraFamily of calcium-releasing products, which offer a unique array of benefits for dentists and patients. One such quality with TheraCem is a unique chemical property that enables it to transition from acidic during initial bonding to alkaline within minutes.*
A Strong Bond for Deep Restorations
Another advantage that dentists appreciate is that it will cure in deep restorations where light cannot reach. Dr. Cole notes that TheraCem is “great for those deep subgingival ceramic margins.”
TheraCem’s adhesive strength is noteworthy. It contains the MDP monomer, which allows it to bond to zirconia, metal, and alumina without the use of an additional primer or etchant. Dr. Cole, noting that he finds the self-adhesive quality reassuring, said TheraCem has worked really well with his zirconia restorations in addition to other substrates.
With high radiopacity, it is easy to identify on radiographs and differentiate from recurrent decay, making for a quicker and easier diagnosis.
Easy Cleanup
With any restoration, there will be excess cement to clear away, and this formulation makes the cleanup process easier and faster. According to Dr. Cole, this cement “cleans up easily and the opaque shade makes it quick to find in difficult-to-reach areas.” That color is a key reason TheraCem is Dr. Cole’s “go to.” “The cement is white opaque, which makes it great for blocking out darker stumps and it helps keep the margins light,” he said.
After more than 30 years in dentistry, Dr. Cole cannot imagine practicing without TheraCem. “BISCO continues to develop products that address practitioners’ concerns,” he added. “They continually improve their product offerings.”
