PinkWave Curing Light
The next generation of curing lights, PinkWave features innovative Quadwave light technology to save valuable time while reducing sensitivity for patients
|
Is a curing light that's designed beautifully to be ergonomic, help create longer-lasting restorations, and minimize sensitivity too good to be true? Not according to Michael A. Miyasaki, DDS, and many other dentists who use Vista Apex's PinkWave Curing Light to do just that. Here, Dr. Miyasaki shares what he loves most about this unique workhorse.
Having to fight the clock in dentistry can be an unnecessary source of stress. For that reason, we tend to use a variety of light-cured restorative materials and cements so that we can place the material and cure it when we are ready. The difficulty with this process is determining how deep the light can penetrate, what wavelengths are needed to cure the material, and the potential future impact of polymerization shrinkage.
Without sufficient curing, we would likely receive patient complaints about sensitivity and see our restorations fail prematurely. I don't have to worry about that with Vista Apex's PinkWave Curing Light, a unique product that stands out from its competitors.
The PinkWave Curing Light saves time and allows me to cure confidently. What's so amazing to me about it is that Vista Apex did not simply try to improve on existing blue wavelength curing lights—that would have been too easy. Rather, the manufacturer's research & development team spent years harnessing the power of multiple light technologies. The result is the PinkWave's unique design that covers more of the tooth at a higher level of irradiance to save time and increase efficiency.
Innovative Quadwave TechnologyOver the past few decades, manufacturers have changed which photoinitiators they use to improve the color and properties of their composites, which means that a single-wavelength blue light is not always the best choice.
The PinkWave leverages 4 wavelengths to cure and improve the final properties of a composite. The traditional blue light and UV wavelengths cure the different photoinitiators, but there are also red and near-infrared wavelengths to better cure the composite and decrease the polymerization shrinkage.
In fact, I have seen these effects personally in my practice. With Quadwave technology, I can place and cure every light-cure material I use down to 8.5 mm with reduced shrinkage. Additionally, PinkWave's high irradiance helps ensure I will have long-lasting restorations with little chance of sensitivity.
A Unique Design that Saves TimeThe PinkWave has many unique features, but I particularly like that, at 12 mm, the lens is the largest of the popular curing lights, which saves me time when curing. When I hit the “on” switch of any curing light, it feels like I enter a time warp where 10 seconds becomes an hour. With the PinkWave, I can cover an entire tooth or more, and I can cure an entire molar or central incisor at the same time without having to do multiple overlapping curing cycles. This saves me valuable time every day.
The built-in transillumination feature gives me the opportunity to properly diagnose more cases, and many dentists have told me that they use the transillumination feature to diagnose cracks and caries. Just this week I illuminated a tooth to diagnose a fracture that had been causing the patient discomfort during chewing. In the past, I'd have wasted time searching for my transillumination light, but now I can just grab my PinkWave—a definite convenience factor.
The PinkWave’s low-profile design makes it easier to access difficult areas of the mouth, increasing comfort for the patient and lessening the chance of shadowing while curing. It's also ergonomic and lightweight, which reduces hand and wrist fatigue, and there are activation buttons conveniently located on the top and bottom. As with all high-intensity curing lights, the lens may feel warm when curing, and the PinkWave allows you to hold it a few millimeters off the tissue while still maintaining adequate power to cure your composite.
Powered by EfficiencyWhat I like the most about the PinkWave is that it gives me more time to do things other than cure. I think that we as dentists have grown to take light curing for granted and have begun to think that all curing lights are the same regardless of price.
The PinkWave Curing Light is different—it is truly leaps and bounds ahead of the other lights available today, and does its job beautifully by helping me create longerlasting restorations with less sensitivity.
