Used to treat dentinal hypersensitivity, SilverSense SDF allows clinicians to provide more comfortable, pain-free dentistry without staining or sensitivity

We've all had patients who need restorative care but are fearful of the dentist and afraid of instrumentation. Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) offers a tool to help relieve this fear by eliminating the needle and handpiece for many patients, while still providing them with the needed treatment.

Enter SilverSense SDF, a 38% SDF solution that penetrates deep into the dentinal tubules to harden and strengthen the dentin without staining healthy enamel or dentin. “We’re always looking for safe, efficient, and patient-friendly products for our office,” said pediatric dentist Dr. Erica Anand. “SilverSense SDF worked well for us because it didn’t stain other teeth and stopped sensitivity. Most kids were not bothered by the taste, and application was simple and quick.”

Simple, Fast, and Affordable

With each application costing less than $0.80, SilverSense SDF is a cost-effective solution that’s easy to apply with an included Benda Micro Fine Applicator. Formulated to immediately relieve hypersensitivity, it provides both pediatric and adult patients with relief from pain and discomfort until restorative treatment can be performed.

“In our office, we use SDF to treat young children who are fearful and patients with special needs who can’t comfortably sit for treatment—either to prolong or prevent more invasive procedures down the road,” said Dr. Anand. “Patients who have smaller caries that may exfoliate within a year, and children who are not ready for restorative visits, are ideal candidates for SilverSense SDF.”

Small Procedure, Big Benefits

Noting that the application went well for both patients and provider, Dr. Anand typically uses SDF to treat posterior teeth. “We were happy and impressed with SilverSense SDF and had no issues using it,” she said. “It’s a material we use almost daily, so it needs to be user-friendly and accepted by patients.”

SilverSense SDF is tinted blue for precise application and to avoid staining unintended surfaces. It comes in a 5-mL bottle that delivers 1 drop at a time.

“When we use SDF vs no treatment at all, decay is almost always more superficial and requires a smaller restoration,” added Dr. Anand. “SilverSense SDF is beneficial for patients because it works well to eliminate any sensitivity and decreases the need for restorative and invasive treatment.”
