Unit Dose To The Rescue

From reducing cross-contamination and limiting waste to shortening prep time and cleanup, it's no surprise that these Centrix unit-dose materials are also DPS Best Products

Today’s dental professionals rely heavily on cleaning routines and PPE to keep themselves and their patients safe from the threat of infection. Still, even with the best practices in place, the dental operatory is a vulnerable venue for cross-contamination—especially during an ongoing health crisis. However, these anxieties can be eased with unit-dose materials from Centrix.

A Convenient Way to Build, Fill, and Seal

Centrix boasts over a dozen single-use products, many of which have earned the prestigious DPS Best Product award. These include the dual-cure Encore D/C MiniMix core buildup material—a favorite for Dr. Divyang Patel, in part due to its unit-dose technology. “When thinking about infection control, there is enough material to restore the tooth without worrying about disinfecting the syringe,” he said.

Encore D/C MiniMix’s nonslumping formula also allows for easy handling, even in hard-to-reach areas of the mouth, which ensures consistent results with each dose. “I can complete a buildup in a few seconds by accurately dispensing the material with the Needle-Tube tip, curing the outer layer with a curing light, and then letting the dual-cure properties take care of the deepest portion of the buildup,” Dr. Patel said.

DPS evaluators expressed similar sentiment with Tempit moisture-activated temporary filling and sealing material. The prefilled tips can be injected directly into the prep so that there is no messy spatulation, squeeze tubes, or open jars. Ideal for endo access openings and short-term temporaries, Tempit sets in 5 minutes or less after application. Dr. Craig Aebli remembers the frustration of having to scoop other temp materials out of a jar with an instrument. Tempit, he said, offers convenience that other materials simply don’t. “It’s just so much easier to use. It fills in the space it needs to, and if it runs out, I just get another carpule. It’s always fresh, and it’s just so convenient to use.”

Prevention & Pain Relief

A safe approach to caries prevention and sensitivity relief, FluoroDose 5% fluoride varnish is packaged in a patented, hygienic LolliTray, which contains a single 0.3-mL dose of FluoroDose and a Benda Brush applicator. It applies smoothly without clumping and dries in seconds upon contact with saliva, leaving behind a clear finish.  “I like that FluoroDose is a slow-release formula that stays effective for 4 to 6 hours," noted Dr. Jean Creasey. "It also sets quickly and feels smooth.”

A topical anesthetic gel, LolliCaine is designed to provide fast, temporary pain relief during an array of dental procedures. Packaged in unit-dose LolliPacks to reduce cross-contamination and waste, the 20% benzocaine gel has a rapid onset time and can be applied in-office or sent home with the patient to relieve postop discomfort.
