A Perfect Record of Restorative Materials
Kuraray has earned a DPS Best Product award for every one of its products tested by DPS evaluators. Here, dentists share what they love about their favorites.
It’s a winning streak, a string of successes, or a clean sweep! No matter how you phrase it, an unbroken series of awards is rare, especially in the world of dental products. Over the last 2 decades, Kuraray has achieved the unthinkable: in every single review by DPS evaluators, the manufacturer has earned a Best Product award—a feat virtually unmatched in the industry. Although an amazing distinction, many clinicians familiar with Kuraray products find it not at all surprising, owing to the company’s reputation as an innovator in adhesive dentistry.
“When you talk about Kuraray, you talk about a company that has years of research and development behind its products—it’s a company that has been tried and true and tested over and over again in terms of adhesives and composites and restorative-based materials,” said Troy Schmedding, DDS, Walnut Creek, CA. “Kuraray's product research and development has been unsurpassed, making it the leader in adhesion."
Kuraray offers an impressive line of chairside and laboratory materials, 9 of which proudly hold the coveted DPS Best Product designation. Here are just a few of the more recent additions to the manufacturer's impressive string of award-winning products.
CLEARFIL Universal Bond Quick
For use with all etching techniques as well as all light, self, or dual-cure materials, CLEARFIL Universal Bond Quick received accolades from evaluators for its strength and versatility.
A fluoride-releasing universal adhesive in a single-bottle formulation, CLEARFIL Universal Bond Quick features the original MDP formulation and new AMIDE monomer, which provide a unique Rapid Bond Technology to quickly permeate dentin and enamel, significantly reducing water absorption and eliminating waiting time. Additionally, this universal adhesive reduces technique sensitivity and application time without compromising bond strengths, sealing, or desensitizing. It directly bonds to dentin, enamel, metals, zirconia, and lithium disilicate restorative materials—without additional primers.
“We experienced very little postop sensitivity with CLEARFIL Universal Bond Quick, and I used it under all my crowns bonded with resin cement,” said Joshua D. Howard, DMD, Dover, NH. “It's quick and I liked the ease of use,” he continued.
PANAVIA Veneer LC
A light-cure resin cement for esthetic ceramic restorations, PANAVIA Veneer LC is designed for permanent cementation of veneers, and inlays and onlays that are less than 2 mm in thickness and of sufficient translucency. PANAVIA Veneer LC exhibits excellent color stability, high wear resistance, fast and easy cleanup, and provides ample working time of 160 seconds or 200 seconds with PANAVIA V5 Tooth Primer—facilitating simultaneous placement of multiple veneers.
“Kuraray has a long history of making high-quality and consistently reliable products,” said Akshay Vij, BDS, ACT, FAGD, in St. Louis, MO. “I use PANAVIA Veneer LC for my anterior ceramic restorations—usually veneers—that are thin enough to allow adequate light to pass through to predictably polymerize the cement. It handles well and gels to a consistency that can be cleaned with ease. So far, it has shown good color stability as well,” he added.
In addition to excellent polishability and gloss durability, the cement's nanocluster technology includes newly developed spherical silica fillers that allow for both flow and formability during placement, without drifting or sagging. Available in 4 highly esthetic shades, it also provides easy excess removal and quick polishing.
PANAVIA SA Cement Universal
Get some extra room on those supply shelves! The PANAVIA SA Cement Universal is one cement for all restorations and features the unique LCSi monomer for a strong chemical bond to virtually every material, including porcelain, lithium disilicate, and composite resin without the need for a separate primer.
“I have been using PANAVIA since it was introduced to the market 30 years ago," said Andrew Mogelof, DDS, FAGD. "Bond-ing to metal with consistent predictability used to be an issue, but Kuraray provided the answer. It quickly became my go-to product for bonding Maryland bridges, lingual bars, and metal-ceramic restorations, and allows dentists to ‘re-cement’ indirect restorations such as crowns that dislodge due to preparations that do not follow retentive protocols.“
Overall, Kuraray has always stood behind their products and is easily reachable for support,” he added.
