For years, early-stage caries has been subject to the “watch and wait” approach, as clinicians opted to avoid overtreatment and unnecessary removal of healthy tooth structure. But a new era in treating early caries lesions has arrived with Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus (CRFP). An innovative, noninvasive alternative, it remineralizes non-cavitated enamel caries on the interproximal, occlusal, and buccal surfaces, including white spot lesions around fixed orthodontic brackets, before a restorative treatment is needed.

Supporting vVARDIS' mission to provide everyone with access to better oral health, Henry Schein announced it will have the exclusive rights to distribute Curodont products to larger DSOs in the U.S. Henry Schein will also continue to distribute Curodont products, together with other dental distributors, to general practices and other market segments.

Safe and pain-free for patients of all ages, including children, CRFP works by diffusing into the lesion and attracting salivary calcium and phosphate ions, along with fluoride, to begin remineralization and help maintain the integrity of the tooth.

Quick & Painless Procedure

The application of CRFP is quick and simple, making it easy to integrate into everyday clinical practice. Clinicians can treat a higher number of patients efficiently and effectively, while patients—especially those who are fearful of invasive treatments—benefit from a noninvasive procedure that aims to preserve their natural teeth.

“I’ve been pleased to see how many patients have accepted this treatment, even when they’ve had to pay out of pocket,” said William J. Moorhead, DMD. “That’s because they like the idea of not having to be drilled on for a restoration.”

In a typical workflow, Dr. Moorhead’s hygienist cleans the tooth, etches the surface of the lesion, and then applies CRFP with the provided applicator sponge, pressing it on the lesion and squeezing out all the liquid. Then, the tooth is kept isolated for 5 minutes while the hygienist provides postop and oral hygiene instructions to the patient.

“For the practice, there is a clear benefit to this treatment, not only because of patients’ enthusiasm to move forward, but also because I can delegate it entirely to a team member,” added Dr. Moorhead.
