There’s no way around it. For clinicians in the throes of adhesive dentistry, a curing light is essential. But with countless models available from a host of manufacturers, how does one choose which instrument will work most effectively? The answer is quite simple: think pink.
PinkWave, from Vista Apex, is an innovative curing light designed to enhance the efficacy of dental curing procedures. The only curing light of its kind, PinkWave is equipped with QuadWave Technology, Vista Apex’s patented technology that leverages 4 different wavelengths—ranging from 375 to 900 nm—that can cure virtually any composite on the market.
Along with the traditional blue light, a CQ photoinitiator, QuadWave Technology also provides red and near-infrared light for enhanced polymerization, as well as UV light for photopolymerization. The result is a superior curing light that significantly enhances curing procedures.
John Kanca III, DMD, who practices in Middlebury, CT, began using PinkWave over a year ago, and it’s become his go-to curing light for every one of his restorative treatments.
Near-Infrared Spectrum
“The multiple wavelengths of activation are a big plus for me, because it actually adds a near-infrared spectrum, and it’s the heat that actually helps to diminish the shrinkage stress,” Dr. Kanca explained.
The patented QuadWave technology included on the PinkWave results in decreased shrinkage of materials, which means clinicians will see better restorations with a decreased risk of failure. Clinicians will also find less marginal staining, a lower chance of microleakage and secondary caries, and reduced postoperative sensitivity. Additionally, the increased polymerization from PinkWave results in restorations with greater wear resistance.

Built-In Transilluminator
PinkWave features a built-in transilluminator and offers a 113-mm curing area, the largest in the industry. Additionally, PinkWave includes 3 curing modes. The Standard Cure Mode provides a 20-second cycle with a 1,515 mW/cm2 power output, while the Boost Mode provides a 3-second cycle with a 1,720 mW/cm2 power output. A Ramp Cure Mode offers a 20-second cycle with a gradual increase in intensity.

Largest Surface Area
“Overall, I use PinkWave to cure any light-activated materials,” Dr. Kanca explained. “It has the greatest surface area illumination of any light on the market.”
The PinkWave curing light can cure restorations up to 8.6-mm deep, with an average depth of cure of 7 mm. Covered under warranty for 3 years, PinkWave includes a charging base, autoclavable light shields, disposable barriers, and 3 pairs of safety glasses.
