While patients may have no idea what happens behind the scenes in a dental practice, out of sight cannot be out of mind for clinicians when it comes to reprocessing instruments. The process of cleaning and sterilizing dental instruments involves meticulous attention to detail and several crucial pieces of equipment to help ensure the health and safety of patients.

Henry Schein offers a complete reprocessing solution with 2 products that work hand in hand to simplify routines. With one unit dedicated to ultrasonic cleaning and the other to sterilization, the Maxima Advanced Ultrasonic Cleaner MA210 (formerly known as Maxima PowerClean 210 Ultrasonic Cleaner) and Maxima Turbo Class B Sterilizer make a powerful pair.

Step 1: Ultrasonic Cleaning

The Maxima Advanced Ultrasonic Cleaner MA210 helps dislodge debris and other contaminants that remain on instruments. “It is perfect for hygiene cassettes” and improves efficiency with its large basket and simplified operation, said Linda Kovary Bell, RDH. “It saves time by holding several cassettes at once without overcrowding and reduces the number of cycles to one,” she explained.

Praising the “extremely quiet” and easy operation of the Maxima Advanced Ultrasonic Cleaner MA210, hygienist Lydia Pope enjoyed the LED display and the ability to “have more control over cleaning.” She added, “It’s easy to use, and once the fluid drains out, it is easy to wipe clean. There’s really no maintenance.”

Step 2: Sterilization

After ultrasonic cleaning, it’s time to sterilize those instruments with the Maxima Turbo Class B Sterilizer. Designed for convenience and time savings, the unit holds 8 pouches per cycle, and its triple-vacuum-cycle sterilization and dry time lasts only 15 minutes, which is 4 times faster than standard autoclaves, according to Henry Schein. If necessary, the Emergency Sterilization Mode sterilizes unwrapped instruments in only 7 minutes.

“If pouches are wet, they can rip, and you want to be able to store them properly,” said Susie Worm, DMD, who uses the sterilizer in her Lincoln, NE, practice. “And some instruments can rust if they’re not properly dried, but this sterilizer has done a very good job and seems to have a nice, strong seal when you close it.”

The Maxima Turbo Class B operates quietly, is portable and stackable to optimize space, and boasts several convenient features like 1-button navigation, a high-resolution digital display, and a built-in USB port for transferring cycle data directly to a PC. The unit is simple to install and comes with a market-leading 2-year warranty
