Nonslumping, dual-cure Encore D/C, available in MiniMix and Automix, can be light-activated to accelerate the set

For well over a decade, Arthur O. Lyford, DMD, has relied on Encore D/C from Centrix for core buildups at his general practice in Hollis, NH. Why? He trusts he will get a complete cure every time, ensuring the structural integrity and durability of the restoration.

The composite core buildup material features a dual-cure formula that ensures complete curing regardless of depth or placement of the final restoration. Once placed, the material can be light-cured for 20 seconds per 1 mm to accelerate the setting, while the dual-cure mode ensures a thorough cure.

It's a formula that Dr. Lyford has been able to rely on for consistent performance over the years. “It seems to cure thoroughly with the chemical cure,” he said. “I trust the cure. Even years later, I’ve found that the consistency is still that of dentin.”

Flows, Adapts, and Stays Put

Encore D/C enables buildup of the coronal core or the fabrication of a composite post and core that bonds the post, tooth, and core together into an integrated whole. The material is delivered directly to the bottom of the post hole with Centrix’s exclusive NeedleTube dispensing tips, which are bendable and enhance access to hard-to-reach areas.

“The bendable metal tip is key for getting close, because the material is pretty thin when it first flows,” Dr. Lyford said. He found Encore D/C’s initial flowability as a significant improvement over previous materials that did not adapt well to preparations.

Despite its flowability—Encore D/C does not slump and can be used without a matrix if necessary. To reduce ditching, Centrix designed the material to cut like dentin. “It flows well, sets up hard, and preps similar to dentin,” Dr. Lyford said.

Choose Your Delivery

Encore D/C is available in the standard Automix format and the more popular MiniMix single-dose cartridges. The 0.5-mL single-dose technology eliminates waste and cross-contamination concerns. Its smaller size is more easily maneuvered in the mouth and can be less intimidating for patients.

Dr. Lyford has enjoyed success with the Automix delivery, but recently tried the MiniMix and lauded the format. “It’s much easier [to maneuver in the mouth] than the original gun,” he said. “It was perfect in that regard.” With its superior curing capabilities, flowability, and ease of use, Encore D/C continues to be a reliable choice for dentists looking for consistent results in core buildups.
