The Sensibles universal sensor positioning system provides a custom fit to any sensor size, reducing the need for retakes and improving the patient experience during digital imaging
Getting sensors in the right position to capture digital x-rays can be tricky—and patients aren’t exactly happy when they’re told they need to sit still a little longer for a retake. Malee Wong, RDH, found that Sensibles helped improve sensor positioning, as the universal system provides a custom fit to any sensor size in the horizontal or vertical position.
“The Sensibles were helpful in positioning our digital sensors effectively and accurately for radio-graphs,” Wong said, “and the bite block adaptability/adjustability proved to be extremely helpful when needing to take radiographs for patients with shallow palates and/or mandibular tori.”
Those patients especially appreciate the customized bite block location, Wong said, as it makes taking periapical radiographs much more comfortable. Many are also impressed with the “adjustable, zip-tie-like invention.”
Adding Sensibles to Your Digital Workflow
It was easy to learn how to use the Sensibles system, Wong said, noting that the QR code tutorial provided in the pamphlet was especially helpful. “As with all new equipment,” she continued, “I definitely recommend that new users take the time to watch the video and read the pamphlet and literature to practice assembling/disassembling the Sensibles before usage.”
While some of the pieces were tight and difficult to assemble at first, they’ve now loosened up, Wong said. “Placing the bite blocks in patients’ mouths and exposing radiographs was easy," she added.
Easy to Use & Sterilize
Dr. Edward Lew also recently tried Sensibles in his practice, and said the system was easy to use and position for team members who were familiar with similar systems. Now, even those with no prior experience are more proficient at taking x-rays.
“Once we got used to Sensibles, they helped the assistants take more diagnostic x-rays with less retakes due to cone cuts or interproximal overlaps,” Dr. Lew said. Sensibles are very easy to pack in sterilization bags and place in the autoclave, he added, making them a seamless addition to the dental imaging workflow.
Comfortable for Patients
Both Wong and Dr. Lew found that the customizable Sensibles worked well with their existing sensors, improving positioning and creating a better x-ray experience for patients.
“The Sensibles' flexibility in holding sensors made them very easy to use with our DEXIS sensors. We did not notice any gagging from patients,” Dr. Lew said, “and it did seem to be more comfortable as the sensors were not pushing against their gums.”
